Latency (Ping Issues) During on-peak hours almost all days. no gaming for me :/

Sorry all, this is not the 1st thread that I have raised in regards to this, and sadly I feel that it will not be the last either.

I have been using the same line with BT for years, I was once a happy ADSL2+ customer, and since migrating to infinity (an additional luxury paid do enjoy better gaming) it has infact had an adverse effect.

Speeds are fine, all the time. Have no issues at all. The latency however is truly awful. Gaming and even browsing to a degree is unacceptable during peak times.

Examples would include off-peak, playing a game with an average latency of 10-20ms, on peak this can exceed 300ms easily between 7pm and 10pm most evenings, meaning that I cannot enjoy what I am paying for!

I have had numerous engineers being called out to investigate my line, and no fault is ever found… why they cant accept this and investigate the fault further is truly beyond me.

My home setup is as close to perfect as one could have.
My modem, connects to my HH3 with CAT6 Cable, To which my Pc is connected to HH3 via another CAT6 Cable. I have ran tests by plugging another pc into the network to ensure the pc is not at fault… the issue remains the same. All cables have been tested, all internally is fine.
I have been told (numerous times) that there are no issues on my line from my house to the cabinet, everything is fine.

So why is it, that as soon as 7pm comes, I have no chance of gaming at all? What can be done to resolve the issue.

Re: Latency (Ping Issues) During on-peak hours almost all days. no gaming for me :/

Have been reading another thread carefully and found this VERY relevant.
http://community.bt.com/t5/BT-Infinity/problem-with-infinity/m-p/406049/highlight/true#M26207

Game : CounterStrike Source / Team Fortress 2 / Other Source Engine based games, yet all seems to be affected Battlefield 3 is no better.

Here is an example of response times off peak, these are acceptable!

Then comes the on-peak tests :

Re: Latency (Ping Issues) During on-peak hours almost all days. no gaming for me :/

Here is todays BQM chart, as you can see this evening will be no different in regards to latency during peak times:

ZeeGyInfinity_20130322_2017.png

______________________________________________________________________________________________

For anyone that is interested, This is what is documented on the ThinkBroadband Site to help get an overview of what the graphs mean....

http://www.thinkbroadband.com/faq/sections/bqm.html

congestion.png

This graph covers a different time period to the other graphs, but shows what effect a heavily congested link from an exchange to the wider internet can have. In this case the minimum latency climbs from a high but OK 40ms, to over 140ms at the busiest point in the evening. The consistency of the latency, i.e. wide green area with a narrow blue area helps to suggest this is not congestion from a single users line, but the effect of a much larger link becoming saturated. Anyone who is a gamer would not be able to play first person shooters with latency like this at peak times.

Doesnt that look familiar to my initial charts? Funny that isnt it?

Re: Latency (Ping Issues) During on-peak hours almost all days. no gaming for me :/

Here are some WinMTR Stats, These help portray latency between each hop while to trying to game on my connection. End server is no-where near capacity with other users (on virgin and other LLU ADSL Products) getting Latencies of less than 30ms at the same time as this test.

Re: Latency (Ping Issues) During on-peak hours almost all days. no gaming for me :/

ryant704, thanks for the prompt response. I had done so with my previous post. and I never had a response. Am happy to do the same again, but i hope that i recieve a better service.

I will not be spamming the board, but I will continue to keep uploading statistics to confirm that this is an ongoing issue. I hope, that it may provide a decent overview when(and IF) someone is willing to assist with my issue.

Sorry to sound so negative, but considering the number of visits i have now recieved i find it doubtfull

It's a wholesale's fault not Openreachs by looking at it, you can have 100 engineers it won't make any difference.

The mods take 3 working days to respond

Re: Latency (Ping Issues) During on-peak hours almost all days. no gaming for me :/

I would have to agree with your comment, sio why am i now on my 10+ fault number with even more engineers coming out? I accept that there are different departments, but you would have assumed by now (and with all this evidence previously supplied) they would have tried to look at other issues in an attempt to resolve the problem.

I have just used the contact the mod section on this post too, so am willing to wait the 3 days for that. however, they have yet to action either of my two last requests. im really, really not trying to be negative here. but i am skeptical regardless.

That said Ryant704, I can only thank you for your prompt responses.

Re: Latency (Ping Issues) During on-peak hours almost all days. no gaming for me :/

The best way to look at it is like this I think

Openreach - Physical Side

BT Wholesale - Software side

BT Retail - Selling side

That's salted down so you understand what each do

If you don't have a reply within 3 days, check to see if a Moderators is online and message him with the reference you got when sending. They do get lost sometimes happened to me at one point...
