For clarity I only have 1 socket in the house, no options to try master ect.
Keith thanks for the information on noise margins, very interesting. I tried restarting my router repeatedly as suggested (10 times), I noticed the upload noise margin fluctuation between 5.5 - 6.5 db, but the download noise marging was fixed rigid at 3.0 db.
Is it reasonable to infer then that BT has set my download noise margin at the 3.0 db value?
Ill try BT today if I can and see what they say.
If you would like to contact one of the UK based BT Care Team who moderate this forum, they should be able to help you, and get your target SNR changed to 6dB. They are your best option, as they can do it from their end.
They can be contacted using this link BT Care Team
They normally respond by phone or e-mail, within three working days, however you should get an immediate confirmation, with a tracking number.
Some more test data:
1. Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
0 Kbps 21 Mbps
Max Achievable Speed
Download speedachieved during the test was - 8 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 4 Mbps-21 Mbps.
IP Profile for your line is - 16.08 Mbps
2. Upstream Test: -provides background information.
0 Kbps 832 Kbps
Max Achievable Speed
Upload speed achieved during the test was - 1.1Mbps
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 832 Kbps
Using other speed test utilities on the web I have noticed a pattern on my download throughput, it fluctuates wildly, sometimes hitting 3Gb/s then dropping to 0Gb/s then jumping around, then back to 0Gb/s and so on. Whereas the upload is very stable.
Keith, I sent a message to the care team, Im out of the country on business for a while so it may take some time for me to get a response and check the impact.
Again thanks for your advice.
Well back from NY and jet lagged, managed to setup the BT Home Hub V3 and my issue is solved, must be an issue on my Belkin router, all the WAN settings are identical to the extent I can change them.
Thanks all forum members for your help.
