Lost internet & phone - Line cord error

Just come back off holiday to find I've no internet or phone, the phone displays "line cord error" when I try to use it. When trying to dial in it says we are engaged. Obviously as we have been away nothing has changed, its been working perfectly for 12 months. Neither phone or internet work from test socket.

Although nothing has changed I'm worried about calling an engineer out and being charged, I hear its £130!

It's been down since Friday, anyone any ideas, I've done the online line test and it says everything is OK and it must be something in the house

Is it still engaged with everything unplugged including any modem or router?

 

You will only have to pay if its something within your boundary.

I'm used to being a virgin media customer, they never charged for call outs, as we have been away we haven't touched anything, I guess I might be worrying over nothing but the thought of being charged is bothering me, were saving up for our wedding, we don't have £130 to spare lol

It sounds like an external line fault, probably a short circuit. I am surprised that the line test did not show it up, but it may see it as a busy condition.

All you can do is to report it online, and request a visit, it may give you an option of a free divert of incoming calls to your mobile.

booked an engineer for tomorrow, I cant see how it can be anything inside the house, we have been on holiday so nothing has changed
