MK4 phone socket to telephone extension socket

Hi,

I'm looking to run a telephone only extension from the phone socket of my MK4 plate on the master socket, to a slave socket in the hall.

I intend to use two pair cable, one end wired to a 431A going into the MK4 and another into the IDC connectors in the slave socket in the hall.

Will there be any problem with this?

I thought the wires might 'crossover' seeing as how I'm going from an output socket to IDC and then output again, which might cause issues when I plug the phone into the extension socket in the hall.

I am aware I could run an extension from the IDC in the master, but I want to try and minimise any possible interference.

Cheers,

A

Re: MK4 phone socket to telephone extension socket

There is no 'crossover' with telephony as it is only 2 wires which are not polarity conscious in any case. It would be much simpler just to connect the extension to IDC connectors 2&5 in the master faceplate as is their intended use, you are just adding another fault liability point by using the 431.

Thanks, but would that not possibly interfere with the signal from the master socket as I understand when testing the line extensions are decoupled to prevent possible interference?

Re: MK4 phone socket to telephone extension socket

wired correctly it should not interfere with your broadband connection and is way vast majority are connected without problem

Re: MK4 phone socket to telephone extension socket

Line extensions are decoupled for fault finding purposes to eliminate problems with your internal wiring.

Your electrical connection will be exactly the same whether you use a 431 or wire directly, both will be disconnected by removing the faceplate on the master. Connecting via a 431 is just adding another source of failure.
