Hi there
from the moment I registered for My BT I have not been able to access my email in my mail apps on iPhone. I get various errors messages, one on f which is to re-enter my password but in settings but it sends me round in circles. I think BT asked me for a favourite email, I don’t know if this is linked, but I’ve never had this problem before and sure it’s not a coincidence.
i can access mail by web browser, just not on mail apps. Very frustrating!
I think most of us BT mail users are in the same boat at the moment. Webmail works fine, email clients of any kind are not working. BT support don't support email clients so no point phoning them!!
Hi
I am having the same problem. I also don't understand why there is a long-standing message about 'revamping the service' to remove ads. and about coming off Yahoo servers - when will this happen? There seems to be some disconnect somewhere which means that, as you both say, only web version now works. This situation is super annoying on my iPhone as it constantly puts live ads into my eyeline in my inbox and when you delete them they keep coming back. When I took the advice to change my password, my Yahoo app that had been working ceased to function. When I set up 'Mail' using the instructions from BT this won't accept my details and keeps saying that 'mail.btinternet.com' does not recognise them. (I put up a screenshot under another thread to show this as I was only getting unhelpful repeat advice to use the same instructions over and over - which get you nowhere).
Really unhappy customer!

FWIW, the issue is not a generic issue and clearly does not affect everyone.
There are unknown reasons why this happens, though use a different app the the Yahoo app, for example BlueMail. There does seem to be a lot of people having issue with their iPhone client and access (though as I said before it could be due to the amount of iPhones in use).
If using BlueMail - when adding a new account - use Other.
There should be no ads using an app/mail client unless it's that app/client providing it.
BTYahoo accounts will not be migrated to BTMail - that was permanently stopped in Sep 2014.
Thanks I have given up trying to use a client. The ads are embedded in my inbox accessed via the BT web-page which is the only way that I can currently access emails on any device. Some of the images are offputting and not what I want in my emails eg sinister close up facial image of man in black balaclava (to sell home alarm systems).
So, just to help me understand, does anyone know when will btinternet customers have the ad. free service that the company is promoting herehttps://community.bt.com/t5/Email/We-re-revamping-BT-Mail-to-make-your-experience-better-than-ever/t...?
Does anyone else have any ideas/info. on this or in similar position, please? (and please don't send me advice to set up client using 'other' as this does not work for me for some reason)
Email clients are now working again. BT must have fixed it! It's a regular occurrence though happening once every 2-3 months. Roll on the next time!
I’ve solved it. I added a new account and chose “other” when asked for type of account e.g. Google, Yahoo etc. Put my existing email address into the new account and all working now. Deleted my previous bt account and yahoo account. Still have all my folders as linked to my email address 👍🏻

Please don't give up with a client. It really can be something that's easily missed, I'm not saying this is the case here, but it is very easy to misspell email addresses, server names etc, not putting in the full email address, wrong port numbers, wrong password (if the user has more than one email address, each have their own password).
Try a different client.
It might even be a security issue with the device stopping account addition. I assume you are not using VPN, and a standard access. Are you using a security package?
Ok, I won't say use "Other", but that is the correct one - e.g. if using an app like BlueMail.
With regard the adverts, the link is all about BTMail - it doesn't mention BTYahoo.

BT don't fix anything. It's not a generic issue affecting everyone, it seems to be random what accounts it affects and how long it lasts.
It definitely is BT Yahoos end. A whole flurry of people affected simultaneously, all clients across all platforms simultaneously deny access for no reason, webmail works, no VPN or security package, no changes in any settings. Leave it a random time from 1-3 days and do nothing, it fixes itself! Happens once every few months.
Has to be a full buffer or software glitch at BT or Yahoo servers which does this.
