Actually @licquorice , I've just read your previous post properly. If you could flag it to the mods I would appreciate it, as I don't know how to do that myself.
I can do as a CL and have done.
It's up to you but, as you've already observed, they're not the greatest bit of kit. Plus I have recommended a factory reset before to people who've only just got one and it solved their problem. Another factor to consider is, is it really a new hub or is it a reconditioned one.
The choice is yours
Cheers @licquorice . Appreciate it👍
Ok. @Anonymous will bare that in mind.
New FTTP contract with BT, and brand spanking new unit.

I can only assume that once allocated dynamically the SH2 then does reserve the address, just that you can't allocate the address yourself. Clearly it is expected to be able to enter an address and save it but the functionality just doesn't appear to work. Yet another flaky function of the SH2.
I'll flag it to the mods to see if the hub team have an answer.
I don`t think that is possible on any of the home hubs. You can ask it to always use the same IP address that is assigned by DHCP, but you cannot actually specify which IP address you want to use.
I don`t see that as a bug, unless I am misreading what has been said. The option to always use the same IP address, was never very reliable, and would of course never work with Apple IOS14 devices, who`s MAC address is randomised.
The only option is to assign it on the device itself, outside of the DHCP scope. In fact I have not come across a router that you can do that with.
On the original home hub 1, if you assigned an IP address outside of the DHCP scope, on the device itself, then it used to show that address in the list of devices.

Well I see it as a bug as the field allows the address to be set but it doesn't save. If you are unable to set it, why make it possible to enter an address.
It will be an issue within the GUI, as that option should not be offered in this context, however it would normally be an option if you are wanting to assign port forwarding to a specific IP address instead of a device name, which can be confusing if there is more than one device with the same name but different MAC address..
During that process, it is possible to select a device by IP address, and you could in fact enter any IP address, even if its not within the DHCP scope.
I doubt very much if the internal CLI has changed much since the original home hub, but the GUI has evolved to make it appear more user friendly, and eliminate some of the earlier problems where invalid device names could be entered.
Hence its a bug!!
Its a totally different part of the GUI to port forwarding and if address reservation is not selected, the IP address can't be changed.
Agreed. To me its a bug too.
Its a bug.
As @licquorice says this is nothing to do with any Port Forwarding part of the GUI.
If its working as designed, then the GUI has fundamental flaws.
If thats the design btw, I still think its poor design given my experience with other routers as mentioned before - but then that's my POV, and YMMV.
