Master Socket wiring Query

Hi ,

I recently moved into a house with a working master sock and two extension sockets wich are not working. The Extensions are wired with blue (2), Orange (3), White/Orange (4), White/Blue (5). Green and white wires are not terminated.

The Master socket looks like this -

Does anyone know how this could be wired up? I see a blue wire in the  back but it is leading up the BT section of the socket and I don't want to mess with that. Also the white wires were not twisted as shown, I have done this for tidiness. All 8 wires were separate. No Markings on the white leads that I can see either....

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Re: Master Socket wiring Query

the only terminals that you need to connect to are 2&5 in the master socket

Re: Master Socket wiring Query

Spoiler
You need to check the extension sockets and then wired the master to same terminals

Re: Master Socket wiring Query

There doesn't seem to be a loose blue wire or blue/white wire in master as you can see in the picture?

Re: Master Socket wiring Query

The cable shown in the picture is therefore not the cable that is terminated at the extension.

Please post photos of the wiring of all sockets/junction boxes in the house labelling each picture with location.

Re: Master Socket wiring Query

Ok, it looks like you have a bit of detective work to do.

Working backwards, there is a cable from the living room that connects to the socket in the kitchen. From there another cable connects to somewhere unknown. The cable that is hanging unconnected at the master socket is NOT the second cable in the kitchen.  The cable in the master socket appears to be a 5pair cable of which only the first pair has been used as the incoming feed from line. There is probably a junction box somewhere that you have yet to discover which I suspect was originally 'star wired' with the cable to the kitchen as well as the cable to the master socket.

If you can discover the location of this junction box, you could back wire the extensions simply by connecting the orange and its associated white wire to terminals 2&5 in the faceplate of the master and then crimping the same orange pair at the junction box to the disconnected blue and  blue/white pair going of to the kitchen. Polarity doesn't matter.
