Help please 🙂
My phone line has had interferance for a few months now, so I have done all the tests and:
master socket has no dial tone at all
all (except my broadband connection) extensions have noise interferance (from our side, people calling us can hear us perfectly)
broadband is working fine and my phone works fine from that socket
BT have suggested sending out an engineer however I am nervous about a) the cost and b) finding the time to be available for the appointment (will prob mean a day off work - groan).
Any thoughts or is this an engineer job?
Which type of master socket do you have?
One of these
Or one of these
Or if you are lucky
One of these
Remove the bottom section and plug a phone into the "test" socket behind. Does the phone work properly when plugged in that socket?
If not, try another phone, just to make sure that the original phone is not faulty.
If it does work in that socket, then the fault is in your own internal wiring, and is your responsibility.
If it does not work, then report it to BT, and they will arrange for Openreach to repair your line, without charge.
Thanks - trying to organise an engineer - this is sooo painful.... but you've reassured me the fault is with BT as I have tried all the tests.
