I looked up DMARC and it's well confusing for the average Joe.
I added a DMARC which does not do anything but looks like it has one.
Not sure if BT will accept this as a bona fide dmarc.
https://mxtoolbox.com/ was used again and this will build the setting for you.
On the 123-reg dns in advanced you have add a TXT/SPF entry. The web site above will tell you your text string.
I also added " at each end of the text because a SPF requires that.
If you do speak to 123-reg be careful and check what they say. They told me misleading info.
With no visabilty to logs on 123-reg or btinternet, we don't stand a chance.

Thank you jingars. It's still a bit muddy in my mind but I'll work on it. However, the run-around via Gmail seems to work for the moment. As an aside, how do you include part of somebody else's comment in the reply?
Hi
It would be nice if the BT Email support team could advise on the present situation with regards the 123-reg issue.
I don't see how anybody could run a small business with this issue and luckily I don't but some do.
I have reported this and three days later have heard nothing.
A text yesterday to my mobile, which was not my contact number and a call on the mobile at 8.30, which I missed.
Got a text today at 8.15, so got up and waited for the call. It's 11.08 now and no call - the longest 5 minutes I have ever seen!
I have fault refence number or contact details for the email team either.
This is well unproffessional.
To make matters worse there is a large number of people having this issue and nobody is being advised of a fix or the timescales for a fix.
If this is an SPF or DMARC issue then the support guys should have the details available on the help pages.
Tis not good.

Apart from breaching the terms and conditions of btinternet residential mail, why on earth would anybody try to run a business by handling their mail in such a way rather than using a proper mail system with a good SLA.

@licquorice as a mod, how about seeking to keep the thread on topic and not risk unnecessary distraction?
I, and the majority of the posters here, are seeking a technical solution to an issue.
I'm not a mod, I'm just another customer. As far as I'm aware, the mods are talking to the mail team and attempting to find the source of the problem and a fix if it is within the BT domain. Not sure how I can move that along.
Thanks for helpful post. Looking at the SPF record you posted:
"v=spf1 mx a ip4:94.136.40.163 a:mailex.mailcore.me include:btinternet.com -all"
Are the quotes needed or should they be removed? Also what is the best choice (and why) for the question:
"How strict should be the servers treating the emails?:"
TIA.
Hi
You need the quotes. If you don't the string will not be recognised.
123-reg DNS will update after a couple of minutes and then run the SPF checker to ensure there are no errors.
I am no expert and that's what I did yesterday morning for 2 hours. Change and check until I got it right.
Another guy on the forum used this:-
"v=spf1 mx a ip4:94.136.40.163 a:mailex.mailcore.me include:btinternet.com -all"
At present mine is:-
v=spf1 mx a:mx0.123-reg.co.uk. a:mx1.123-reg.co.uk. include:btinternet.com ?all
The bit at the end ?all seemed to work better than -all on mine.
I would try the first one first as the email server is directly named.
You can test any domain at https://mxtoolbox.com (I don't work for them, just found it was a good tool).
You can also check the whole of the email settings as well as SPF and DMARC.
What I am waiting for is a SPF string from BT email support that they advise works.
Hope this helps.
Bob
Thanks for that. Why isn't your IP4 address shown? Did you remove it for privacy or is it not needed?
Didn't error without it so I left it out.
I am no expert and just run checks as I changed things.
That is why I am expecting the email experts at BT to tell us a string that works.
