Re: Message Delivery Failure - Anyone else having problems?

I agree.  I would like to know what the issue was and how it was solved.

I have a fault report in at present and nobody will speak to me about it.

10 days now.

123-reg took 2 days to get back and they told me it was BT throtling the incoming.

The problem is that you cannot log email issues on the main fault system.  Therefore you don't get a ticket raised and one that you can see when it is updated.

I spoke to the fault desk and they don't like the system because the users ring them and complain!  They have to then email the email team!

Sums it up really.

Re: Message Delivery Failure - Anyone else having problems?

123.reg have got back to me about the fact that some incoming messages are not getting through and have said it is not their fault but BT's. They suggested that I redirect my messages to another platform and not to BT.

I see some people are redirecting their mail via G Mail but surely that can't be the answer. BT was working fine and now it's not. BT have rung me twice but haven't been able to come up with a solution.

As a computer novice all the technical comments on here just go right over my head I'm afraid.

Re: Message Delivery Failure - Anyone else having problems?

BT have closed my ticket with no explanation of what happened. Either they fixed it, 123reg fixed it or I in my confused fumbling manner managed to to reset something somewhere.

In any event, I think my current configuration is working. Has anyone any ideas as to what the problem might have been?

Perhaps I didn't leave it long enough yesterday for the DNS records to propagate with the BTinternet info missing in the SPF record. Just tried it again now and I get the same as you, so it would appear that it is necessary to include BTinternet servers IP address range in the SPF record. I will re-enter BTinternet details in my SPF record  and try again tomorrow after giving time for the DNS servers to update.

@IanMK13

After giving DNS records time to propagate, I concur with your findings. It requires the BTinternet details to be included in the SPF record.

With BTinternet details gives SPF =Pass, without BTinternet details gives SPF=Neutral

Interesting. @licquorice can you please advise what BT-specific details were added to your SPF to get the positive result?

Re: Message Delivery Failure - Anyone else having problems?

I'm not sure how strictly accurate this is in terms of syntax, but it gives a pass when sending from my domain hosted at IONOS using BT's SMTP server. Its probably the IP range that gives the pass.

v=spf1 mx a ip4:213.120.69.0/24 a:btinternet.com include:_spf.perfora.net include:_spf.kundenserver.de ~all

MX Toolbox seems happy with it

@licquorice

After floundering around in the dark, having little idea what I'm doing, I received a dmarc domain report this morning. After submitting it to https://dmarcian.com/xml-to-human-converter/, it seems that while DKIM records can survive BT's email forwarding protocols, those going through secureserver apparently don't.  I aslo got different SPF check results from Gmail than when using DMARC message reflector validation tools. Perhaps Gmail is less choosy.

In post 182, Roger1945 says:

I changed to always sending using my BT address as Sender and including my domain name address as the Reply To address

Could someone tell me how to fill in a Return To address please?  I can't see it when I use BT email via my browser - see below.

To: @MikePlob

Is that webmail or a client? I use Thunderbird and get a drop down menu list of senders (my bt address, my wife's bt address and my gmail address; I also used to also see my 123 address but that's gone now). You can pick which one to use, the default being my bt address. If you're only servicing one account I guess you don't get a choice.

Re: Message Delivery Failure - Anyone else having problems?

I now find that I fail to receive emails sent by a colleague to my 123reg alias using Outlook 2010 for his email. I use Thunderbird. My colleague reports that his Outlook receives an 'Unable to Send' message. Sending to my btinternet.com address from his Outlook however is not a problem. As far as I know the Outlook fault is not replicated elsewhere.  Does anyone else have this problem?
