Re: Recent Update

I think that the dynamic folders, which BT mail writes to are treated differently from static folders which you create and populate. It depends whose servers the mail was being stored in, BT's or Yahoo's and what their back up policies were. It may be that the back up is sitting on Yahoo's servers which BT can't now access. It's a mess up, but exactly whose is a moot point.

You need to mark it as safe sender. Just marking it not spam will only move it in your inbox. You can do that in Settings or as a drop down in the inbox. But not in the Spam folder where that option isn't available. For no good reason that I can see.

Re: Monstrous new BT email upgrade

Today's demonstration of direness:

Start typing a contact & it doesn't come up with any, despite having done so many times before.

Ah: So now you mustn't use a capital letter to begin someone's name...

Re: Monstrous new BT email upgrade

I've been locked down away from my PC since March, only able to use a Samsung phone and tablet.  Just returned and I can now access my PC. Webmail on my PC is much better. However sent mails remain deleted and contacts remain corrupted, but search speed is fine. On the Samsungs webmail and the app were unusable. Searches only goback for a couple of weeks, I could rebuild my contacts from old e mails now though.

I have Outlook on my PC (IMAP) .  I have checked my Outlook, only offline so far and I see that my sent e mails exist  on my PC  from before lockdown in March,  although I know that they have been deleted from the server.  I am very nervous about letting  Outlook loose online in case it decides to synchronise with the e mail eating BT servers.

Any advice on how to proceed?

Re: Monstrous new BT email upgrade

I'm not sure if the system is IMAP why you should see any messages in Outlook - IMAP keeps the messages on the server, unlike POP3 which downloads them. But if you do have anything there then try moving it to a non-dynamic folder of your choice - one that the email system can't write to without your command - that may preserve it. Exporting the contacts from that system might also be an idea. Hope something works for you.

Re: Monstrous new BT email upgrade

This thread has astonished me, not about people having problems with the new service but the fact that in 2020 people are still using an ISPs email service. I realised many years ago that the problem with using an ISPs email offering is that you would be forever be reliant on either staying with that company or paying to continue using the service if you left.

I bit the bullet, signed up for gmail and informed everyone about my new email address. It’s something I’ve never regretted doing.

Re: Monstrous new BT email upgrade

I have both - I'm sure numbers of people do - but if you've had the same address for over 2 decades notifying everyone who might have it is a bore - and a number of suppliers certainly do have it who I wish to continue to do business with without having to log in and change my e-mail details. I also use an address which can be ported to any system on instruction from me, but again a bit of a faff. Having more than one e-mail system allows for one of them going down - or for madnesses like one key supplier's system deciding to block all mail to my address on a whim. The second address sorted that until they could amend their server.

Before going online you can back up and you should back up your email account if you have not already done that.
