Am I right in thinking that Outlook on its own won't solve the BT problems. As a client all Outlook will do is better manage the garbage being produced by the BT server. Lost e mails will still be lost. Slow searching will still be slow. You need to use something like Virgin or google mail as well as Outlook?
It will solve virtually all of them, it might even solve the lost email problems depending on how they are being lost. The garbage isn't being produced by the mail server, the garbage is being produced by the web UI. The server is just a big filing cabinet holding emails, it has no graphical user interface of its own, that is provided by whatever type of client you are using to display and manipulate the mails. You can just Telnet into a mail server and download the mails if you wish.
Are you sure you aren't confusing Outlook, the mail service with MSOutlook mail client part of the MSOffice suite.
have now switched the emails on my pc to Mozilla Firefox and it has improved the functionality enormously.
It is not perfect but the speed is back to normal
U R lucky! I'm using Firefox too and it's positively pedestrian.
Regarding lost mail mail not getting through or being received. I am currently dealing with some legal matters with Solicitors and was concerned at the lack of replies to emails. So I sent the mail from a Gmail address ( not as a BT mail client). I asked them to reply to both Gmail and BT. The Gmail reply was instant the BT mail never arrived. and only came eventually when requested again after several tries.
This of course is completely useless as when somebody sends a mail they assume its been received unless they get a Mailer Daemon maybe.
We arent talking about casual mail chat here asking Aunt Flo how her Bunions are this is serious stuff.
plus the mail wasnt being received on Thunderbird as that only mirrors what is being received at the BT mail
I gave up relying on BT mail for 'important stuff' a long time ago.
I can't get to my PC for a couple of weeks I'll check on the Outlook issue then.
You know I think we are going to find that they didn't take a back up of the old system before they started on this. Otherwise they could easily have replaced the missing e mails!
Have you seen message 35 in this thread?
I’m also using Firefox and it’s abysmally slow.
i used to use various email clients, but having had a few hard disk crashes in the past, and lost all my emails, I’m reticent to move away from online email.
🤡
I know this is a bit late now but if you decide to use an email client in the future you should include backing up your emails in your backup regime, that is assuming you do now have a back up regime.
Failing that, when using an email client, if you leave your emails on the BT server and assuming BT don't lose them or your account gets hacked, that could be considered as one of your backups.
Hello,
I do not like the new BT email either. Just a few of the new and/or missing features that I find infuriating:
Not being able to open more than one mail at once.
Not being able to scroll between the mails in search results
Not being able to return to the list of search results after viewing an email from the list
Not being able to type dates in the search boxes, but having to scroll through a calendar
Not having my old contacts list intact - some are still there, others not
If there are any easy solutions to any of the above, I would be grateful to hear of them.
Thanks
BD
