Re: Monstrous new BT email upgrade

There is a very simple solution, don't use webmail, use a mail client such as Thunderbird.

Hello,

I do not like the new BT email either. Just a few of the new and/or missing features that I find infuriating:

Before the usual moaners jump on this reply I am not defending or apologising for BTMail. I am suggesting things which might not be ideal but they may help this user which is more than most of you have done!

Not being able to open more than one mail at once. If you use a "Preview View" which can be selected by clicking on the "Change View" button on the right hand side ,double click your email and you can open more than one email at a time.

Not being able to scroll between the mails in search results. Once you have your list of emails, if you open one of the email then hover your mouse in the margin half way down the email text on either side an arrow will appear that will let you go to the next or previous email.

Not being able to return to the list of search results after viewing an email from the list If you click on the down arrow in the search box then search again it will bring up your list.

Not being able to type dates in the search boxes, but having to scroll through a calendar

Not having my old contacts list intact - some are still there, others not It depends how you had initially saved your contacts. If you added and saved them on a mobile device it means that they were saved on the devices contact list and not on the Yahoo or BT servers which means they were not there to be migrated over to the BT servers. You will need to export them from your mobile device and import them to your BTMail account. Also if you never actually saved them into your Yahoo account but only used the "Auto Fill" function on Yahoo this would not have been carried over to the BTMail servers.

If there are any easy solutions to any of the above, I would be grateful to hear of them.

Thanks

BD

Re: Monstrous new BT email upgrade

Thanks for these tips, very useful. I did prefer the tab format for open e-mails in the old system.

Re: Monstrous new BT email upgrade

I welcome any advice and guidance any of you are able to offer and was thrilled to see gg30340's suggestion as to how to open more than one email at a time.

However, I do not have a 'Preview View' in the 'Change View' menu.

I have Right, Below, None, Attachment View and, under Message Options, Conversation View. I've tried all of these and none of them allow me to open more than one email at a time. Any suggestion as to what I may be doing wrong?

We all have different methods of working and, for me, having the ability to have several emails open at a time is invaluable. Even increasing familiarity with this 'upgrade' does not help and things that could previously be dealt with quickly are now taking much, much longer to complete.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can offer a solution - other than the regular 'leave BT' comments!

Re: Monstrous new BT email upgrade

The "Preview View" was a typo. It should have read you need to use a Preview in the Preview selection. You need to select either of the Previews Right or Below. Once you have selected one of them you should be able to open an email in a new window when you double click on it in the list of emails.

If you use emails a lot you should consider using an email client such as Thunderbird or Outlook which have been specifically designed to manage email rather than using webmail on a web browser.

By using an email client you will not need to use webmail at all or be at the mercy of any ISP changing its user interface.

Re: Monstrous new BT email upgrade

Thanks, I had managed to do that already. The worrying thing is that it then tells me that new window is not secure.

Yes, yes, I know - I should use an email client!!!

I have now had another problem raise it's head when I'm deleting mail, but I really think it's about time BT took their head out of the sand and spoke to us all directly. It is NOT the community's responsibility to sort out their muddle.

Re: Monstrous new BT email upgrade

Yes, of course I have read that.

But some sort of timescale for the next update would be useful. It is the least one would expect of a service provider such as BT.

If you click on the padlock on the new window it will tell you what is insecure. It is usually a picture or graphic that is in the email that is insecure, not the whole email.

If you know that and choose not to there really is nothing more to say about it.
