Moved from 21CN WBC to ADSL Max without prior notice?

Go to solution

Hi

We moved in here August 2013 and are on totally unlimited Broadband.

The exchange (Ranmoor Sheffield) is within spitting distance. It is 21CN WBC/ Annex M/ ADSL Max/ ADSL enabled. The allocated telephone line for this property states that all these options are available and downstream is up to 18mbs.

Until 2 weeks ago we hovered between 17 and 18mbs (the entire time we have been here- no complaints at all). We then had several days of signal dropping. After that we were at 12-14mbs downstream. But I still felt that was OK.

Then on Monday and yesterday signal dropped off most of the day. Since then we are on 5-6mbs

The BT (further) speed test says we are operating within performance limits as the line is configured for 2 -7.15mbs...

!?!?

What has happened? Why has the connection (and service level) been downgraded without prior notice?

Anyone else have this? Any mods know the answer?

Any answers or suggestions much appreciated.

Rob

Can you post the stats from our router?  Have you connected to test socket to try and stop the drops in connection

I just rebooted the modem. Prior to that uptime was 36 hours.

You are still on adsl2/2+ but due to all the drops in connection and any manual resets you are now in a banded profile and you now need to maintain connection 24/7 for 3/5 days and banding should release automatically

If you get 5 days stable connection and still no change then post back and we can see if mods can help

Re: Moved from 21CN WBC to ADSL Max without prior notice?

Hi

Im afraid I am back again. This is the current state of play

System Up Time 130:46:54
PortStatusTxPktsRxPktsCollisionsTx B/sRx B/sUp Time
WANPPPoA23225355314976910242903180832:58:43

WLAN b/g/n--------------
WLAN a/n/ac867M102496609294839026501607150:11:32

ADSL LinkDownstreamUpstream
Link Rate6656 Kbps1279 Kbps
Line Attenuation12.5 dB7.9 dB
Noise Margin25.8 dB6.5 dB

It's the exact same problem as when I originally posted. It has not changed in the 130 hours of uninterrupted service.

As said from August 2013 till a short while ago we had stable 18mbs; then that dropped to 14mbs.

But this is totally unacceptable.

One thing I did find out was that the day before this happened there was an outage at the local exchange (Ranmoor). That was another reason why I thought the queued banding explanation must be true = the DLM would kick in.

But it has not.

I think there is now a fault on this line.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Sorry but the 130 hrs is the uptime for the router but your internet connection time Is only 32+ hrs. You are looking at the wrong uptime. As I said you need a stable internet connection not just the router connected. If you get to 5+ days pppoa time then post stats and see if mods will get you out of banding

Those LAN stats reset when I turn off the desktop though isn't that correct? And the wireless is on a schedule due to children- so it switches off.

The router has been conected to the internet and the internet has been working for 130 hours!
