Apologies for the long winded explanation but difficult to explain this without pictures.
Our BT connection enters the house from a small grey box (with old British Telecom “T” on front) next to front door.
The main socket is in the dining room but not in a practical position, so our Hub is connected to an extension in an upstairs bedroom, which is in the centre of the house and wifi works well from there.
There is wiring running from the outside box into the hall, round the hall skirting then disappears into the wall (to main socket?) and reappears to run up the side of the stairs - I presume this is the wiring for the upstairs extension?
The issue we have is that we are getting new vinyl flooring fitted in the hall (only a very small area) which will be laid directly onto the floor, and the wiring, which until now has been under carpet will show through the flooring - leaving an uneven surface.
We can’t move the skirting as it sits under wood panelling. So, ideally we want to move the wiring.
Is it possible for a BT engineer to move the wiring to a different route e.g. could it go round the outside of the house then into the upstairs bedroom to make that the main socket?

Its Openreach not BT who look after the external network.
Internal wiring is your responsibility.
If you want the external routing changed, then you should be able to ask BT to arrange it with Openreach. It used to be called an external shift, but you may be able to get clarification from certain other forum members.
