My BT App not showing Parental/Device controls in the app

I have a brand new Smart Hub2 received this month after moving house. I've also got a Wi-Fi disc setup.

When I look in the MyBT App > More > Your wi-fi network, I can see both my Hub and Disc listed, along with an option to setup a new disc and Manage your wi-fi settings.

Trouble is, I can't see any way to manage devices/parental controls within the app. I'm running iOS app version 8.8.1.

@nathanrt

The ability do do that via an app, was introduced in a recent firmware update to the smart hub, so perhaps yours is on an older firmware?

Can you manage the settings via the home hub web interface at this address 192.168.1.254

This change has not been popular with many users, who may not have a smartphone.

Hub firmware version is

v0.12.02.11078-BT - I'm assuming this is the latest since I got the SH2 2 weeks ago

You will probably have to wait for a posting from someone with the system, or a reply from one of the BT employees, as this is just a customer forum.

You could always ask the helpdesk.

@nathanrt

The latest firmware for the SmartHub 2 is: v0.16.02.08304-BT

There’s no way to force the hub to update, but it should happen automatically at some point.

Re: My BT App not showing Parental/Device controls in the app

@nathanrt thanks for posting and welcome to the community, to manage the access controls you need to follow these steps in the MyBT app.

From the app, click More then select Your wi-fi network

Select Control wi-fi access for your devices to manage your screen time online

The Parental Controls are slightly different in that you need to click into the Manage your extras section on the app and choose parental controls.

Re: My BT App not showing Parental/Device controls in the app

I was persuaded to upgrade my router to the latest Smart Hub 2. If you use Access Control to limit children’s devises it is a nightmare using the app. Instead of the previous way with a browser.

The app also doesn’t work properly on an iPad and interface is so difficult to mange on the small screen.

Is there a way to return the firmware on the router back to being able to control Access Control via the 192 etc web address I wonder.  It is just ridiculous that on your computer you can manage all settings for your router except Access Control. The one setting you are likely to want to change most frequently and far more convenient and quick on your computer or iPad.

@jgl

Just go back to using your old home hub, if it does everything you want it to. Unless of course you have the extra BT Complete Wif black disc, as that only works with the smart hub 2.

Re: My BT App not showing Parental/Device controls in the app

Yes, I have done having, wasted a lot of time and am asking BT for a refund.  I don'’t know why BT should be trying to persuade people to upgrade from Halo 1 (which has just an unnecessary change of branding name to the account) to Halo 2.  It seems to have no advantages at all for an existing user who does not want or need an engineer’s help in setting up in the beginning.

Their App does not even format properly on Apple devices, on some pages text overlapping other text.
