My BT IP addresses are blacklisted

I'm having trouble sending to aol.com email addresses.

Am pretty certain that it is because my IP address is blacklisted, see here:

http://mxtoolbox.com/SuperTool.aspx?action=blacklist%3a86.139.192.10

I've tried restarting to get a new IP address several times but all the ones I've tried seemed to have this problem.

I switch off the BThub at night so usually get a new IP each day.

The problem first arose about a week ago.

Can you look at getting all BT addresses sorted please.

Thanks Chris

Thanks.  Where should I report this to BT direct?

BT cannot do anything about other services that choose to blacklist certain IP addresses. All you can do is change your IP address by disconnecting the Internet connection, then reconnecting.

Re: My BT IP addresses are blacklisted

I'd say that it is BT's problem as some of its users are causing others problems.

I guess other users will have the same issue, so it will probably save BT grief to sort this out.

I recently switched from another ISP where I had a static IP address - beginning to wish I hadn't.

Anyway, where would I report this issue?

Hi. Welcome to the forums

How are you sending the emails ? Is it via a normal mail client program such as Outlook, Thunderbird, Windows Mail etc - via webmail ?

Virtually all dynamic IP space in ISPs are blacklisted in various places, this is to help people using them prevent spam reaching them.

Unless you are using an outsourced mail hosting system, you should be using the ISP smarthosts (e.g. mail.btinternet.com) to send emails.

Re: My BT IP addresses are blacklisted

A normal email client through a non-BT/Yahoo SMTP mail server that requires authentication to send.

The mail server host say their servers aren't blacklisted.

I'm guessing that aol sees that my email originated from a blacklisted IP address.

I've been through at least four different IP addresses now.

All are showing problems at SuperTool.

However it's possible that my email to someone at aol.com on my most recent IP has got through.  Hasn't been bounced yet - I waiting for a reply which may not be immediate.

I'd prefer not to have to get an IP hider to be able to send email.

Hi again.

Frankly this does actually sound like your mail hosting is blacklisted, or are not properly configured - perhaps due to you changing ISPs.

It clearly isn't a BT specific problem, otherwise there would be masses of similar complaints.

Re: My BT IP addresses are blacklisted

Hi and thanks

I've been with BT for 2 months now; this issue's just on and off in the last week or so.

Emails from my current IP address are getting through to aol; perhaps I shouldn't switch off!

I'll contact aol when the next problem arises through the link they provide in the reject.

Ta Chris
