Hi All,
I am trying to reuse my old BT modems in vain.
I have a HH5A which uses the grey DSL connector which works just fine.
Trying the following:
- Home Hub 3A done a factory reset
- Home Hub 3B done a factory reset
- Home Hub 4A done a factory reset
All are set on 0 /38 with default BT username.
All worked as i was the initial owner and used them on my BT broadband.
Then i replug the Home Hub 5A and it connect fine.
Also tried to change the ADSL filter and try without filter.
All Modems had their respective power plugs.
Other than the HH% mac address being fixed i really cannot figure out why this is hapening.
I joined BT live chat and they cannot explain this.
Can anyone please help ?
Thanks !

how are you trying to use the old hubs - as wifi extenders?
you can only connect one router at any time to the phone line
Hi Imjolly,
Thank you for your reply.
I am trying to replace the HH5 whith any of these older modems.
I am plugin one modem at a time as i know more wont work.
I am also wondering if an ADSL/VDSL non BT router would work at all as the BT modems them selves wont.
I cannot figure out what the HH5A can do on the DSL (grey connector) that the older ones wont do.
Any idea ?
Thanks.
I am assuming you are on normal ADSL and not BT Infinity or faster broadband?
If you are on Infinity or faster broadband, then only the home hub 5, or a third party VDSL router will work.
You do not have to use a BT supplied one.
Thanks Keith_Beddoe,
I am on Infinity 2, I get 50Mb downstream and 15Mb upstream and i am using the DSL grey connector dirrectly to the filter/phone line.
So I guess giving a go to a 3rd party at this stage is my only way forward ?
Thanks !
yes only hub5 onwards work with infinity/fibre conenctions
you can get 3rd party modem router and tplink 9970 for £30 for single band router is popular - it is only a single band router though

I have moved this thread to this Infinity board, as you had posted on the ADSL board, which is where the confusion arose.
What is the problem with your existing home hub 5?
Yes, you can use a third pary router as @imjolly said, if you are not happy with the home hub 5.
