My broadband can't handle online gaming

Hi,

For a long time now my broadband has been so slow and laggy that it's got to the point where I can't even play an online game without it stuttering.

I've tried wired, wireless, turning off everything bar that device, resetting everything, opening ports, and nothing works. Surely it can't be possible that my broadband can't handle one online game without anything else on in the background?

We have 20MB fibre I think, which should be plenty. I also have my own business line completely to myself so it's not like the connection is being interfered with by other devices.

It's really starting to get on my nerves. Anyone have any suggestions? I've heard the HomeHubs can be the problem, could it be the router? We live out in the countryside so I think it's also a possibility that the line is just awful and nothing can be done.

Also just for some information:

Pingtests will often run at 50 or so latency which I'm perfectly fine with but as soon as I go into an online game (Call of Duty is particularly bad, as well as FIFA 16, both on the Xbox One) it starts lagging. PC games also do it too so I'm positive it isn't the servers. It's like I'm being throttled as soon as I go onto a game.

Thanks in advance.

Re: My broadband can't handle online gaming

if you have a HH5 can you go to hub manager then trobleshooting then helpdesk and post 1-12

can you run btspeedtester and when first test completes then run diagnostic test and post results  must be done with wired connection  btspeedtester

can you enter your phone number and post results  remember to delete number wholesale FTTC check

try quiet line test   dial 17070 option 2  should be quiet and best with corded phone

Re: My broadband can't handle online gaming

Seems just normal DSL not FTTC and the attenuation is really high 2 km from the cabinet if it was fttc

Re: My broadband can't handle online gaming

@Smudge96 I'm sorry to see you're having problems with online gaming. If you have BT Business broadband you will need to post on the Business forums https://business.forums.bt.com/ as we can only assist with residential broadband issues.

Cheers

Neil

@Interceptor121

if you look at the upload max data rate you will see it is to high for ADSL likewise the actual upload speed is far higher than ADSL

It looks far more like the poster is on fasterbroadband with fibre
