Re: My neighbour's FTTC speed is 3 times faster and they're further away!

Go to solution
Well he does, though I can't explain it. If you can't accept the actual speed, what about the theoretical max? Why would his max be higher if he's further down the line? Presumably, I'm not allowed to post the postcodes so you guys can check the values for yourselves?

using post code on dslchecker is least accurate method followed by address and most accurate is phone number maybe using phone number will show that you are on different cabinets hence the variation in speed at 1.2km you won't get 60mb connection speed

Ah, found it at the top of the adslchecker page Both are on cabinet 20, pinhoe exchange. As I say, if you can't accept the reported speeds I give (not sure how I can prove them), can you explain why the adslchecker max is so different? He gets 30 to my 19 and yet he's further down the road (and cable run) from the cabinet.

Suggest you ask him for his phone number and post checker results including cabinet number for both numbers.

OK, was hoping not to have to ask him, but I can. Won't it just show the same results? My results won't change and the ones I posted are for his specific address (when you add the postcode, it gives you a list of addresses from which to pick the one you want). What's the best way to post the results, cut-and-pasting the table from the web site didn't work very well and I couldn't submit the post without removing a load of html.

Thanks, yes I know where the cabinet is. As I said, I've followed the cables from it to the two properties. It'll take me a few days to get the phone number, but when I have it I'll post the pages from adslchecker, but they'll be exactly as they are in my original post. Won't you then just doubt that his house is further down the road than mine? Short of giving you the numbers and the postcode (so you can confirm the locations e.g., on google maps) I'm not sure how we can move this discussion onto the helpful bit from the current doubtful comments. Would anyone be willing to offer comments or advice, assuming my original post to be true?

Thanks in advance.

post the stats from your router if hh6 then advanced settings then technical log information even is the dslchecker was wrong which is unlikely that would not stop your hub connecting at a different speed it is always possible that the cable from cab comes from neighbour to you and not from you to neighbour can you see cable overhead from cab to home

Sorry, I didn't understand the last post. I do have an HH6, but the technical log doesn't say anything about the distance to the cabinet. ADSL checker says max speed 19 and current speed 16. Technical log on HH6 says current speed 16 so they agree as you'd expect. There is just a single run of cables all the way down the road from the cabinet. The cable definitely doesn't go past my house, up to my neighbour and then back down again. It's an overhead cable so you can see exactly how it runs.
