Re: My neighbour's FTTC speed is 3 times faster and they're further away!

Go to solution

Thanks pompey,

I don’t have access to software to edit out the phone number in the stats, but it wouldn’t help anyway. As soon as the people you refer to see the stats, they’ll just say that i’m lying about the distance instead. I can’t prove the distance without revealing the address so i’ll never be able to satisfy them.

Fortunately, enough people on the forum have been helpful and made the post worthwhile. I have an answer though it’s a shame that i had to wade through so much animosity to get it.

Note. I see you've edited your post to include the very animosity you originally referred to.

Hi Everyone,

This thread is getting out of hand as I have posted before please keep it friendly and on topic.

@p0rtion has advised several times that they can't post the checker results and if other contributors to the thread are unable to help or offer constructive advice based on the information already provided I would kindly ask that you refrain from asking for these again.

Many thanks

Neil

Why not do it the same way as you did with your first post and just edit out the phone number? No software needed.

Leave exchange and cab number and include max speed seen as you did with your own number.

The problem we have is that the laws of physics tell us thar 59Mb speed is impossible at a distance of 1.2km from the cabinet.

Even your speed indicates less than 1km.

Finally if you have to be less than 1km to get your speed your friends speed indicates he's about 300mts closer to the cab than you. Coincidentally you say he's about 300mts away from you.

Hi pippincp,

I don’t think that the more negative contributors would be happy with a cut-and-paste. I think it would be too easy to fake/edit? I can see that would be an issue  and I would try e.g., at work, but I don’t think it’ll help anyway.

I am definitely 1.2km from the cabinet as we recently had the line surveyed for FTTPoD and our neighbours are definitely further as their line was added on later and you can see it overhead. According to google maps, we’re about 1km straight line distance form the cabinet, but the cables follow the road round rather than coming straight to the house.

Thanks for your help though.

PS. I think my line speed (16 actual, 19 max) indicates a distance of 1.4-1.6km if i read the graph above correctly.

Sorry I had confused your neighbours estimate in first post with yours.

As regards you assertion that you arrived at the cab distance from the FTTOoD survey you had then I'm sorry to disappoint you. FTTP is not supplied from a cabinet but from the nearest agregation node which could actually be supplied from a different exchange.

Thanks pippincp,

The survey didn't tell us about the cable distance (I didn't "assert" that it did), the engineer did when he came out to do the survey. He was really chatty and talked us through the current and proposed new setup. It was all on his datapad that he brought with him.
