My poor BB

Hello all,

I posted once before but sadly was angry and frustrated, and the Stock cut and paste 'help' just made me even more angry.

My BB is still woefull so i'll try again and try not to get emotional.

Ok so

Long line about 5km from the exchange, BB went in years ago and was flakey to say the least, some fettling by BT and we got a 1Mb connection that was a bit iffy when it was stromy but was ok. we were UPGRADED to 8mb max at some point and have had the obvious results from that in that we can have a 2Mb synch which downtrains to about 1.6 or so  but suffer with the retrains from the DSLAM if we have intermittant line drops.

So for quite a few years its been this way but over the last 3 to 4 months its just all gone down hill. The loss of synch stuff happens so regularly we are constantly in the sub 512k range the line doesnt ever synch over 1mb and due to the

wait 3 to 5 days for it all to settle we never really seem to get anywhere with fault reporting.

There has to be what any normal person would call a fault if you can no longer get what you were getting previously.

The line has been repaired several times over the years with no noticable change to service so somethings changed this time.

I did quiet line test i can hear crackling  but just got off the line with customer services who say it tests fine shes logged it this time so i'm supposed to get a call in the next 48 hours.

Ive done the stuff in the guides master socket, no extensions no fridges or microwaves on top of my phone line etc so please please dont ask me to read that guys tips and request a STAR for a helpfull answer.

Ive posted the stats from the router below,    Ijust dont know how to actually get someone to have a decent look at my service when you just seem to go round and round in circles

So thats it really, not sure if theres anything anyone can suggest, but thanks if you can

Gary

Re: My poor BB

I'm not manually resetting the connection either if someone notices the uptimes, just to be clear.

So suggesting leaving it on to retrain wont win you a star for an accepted solution 🙂

Re: My poor BB

I need more information to help but if you  don't want to give the answers that's ok.  the standard request for information saves a lot of time when people post and give no information

your connection speed is very low and for your attenuation I would hopr for 1.5/2mb on a good line with no noise.  your noise margin is high at 17 as normal about 6 and if you could find the cause of the noise and get margin down then that will give the speed increase required.  If you can hear a crackle during te quiet line test then unless you can get that fixed your broadband will continue to struggle

you are using the business hub which many recommend for long lines so unlikely another router will help

you have tried the different sockets so are you connected directly to the master or test socket?

did you try to get on a fixed line connection as suggested the last time you were on the forum?

Re: My poor BB

Hi i agree with imjolly you need to get the noise problem resolving until that has gone broadband will not improve also as your noise margin is high as well that will also reduce your connection speed

Re: My poor BB

Hi Imjolly,

Anything you think needs asking ask away, I will answer anything at this point.

I'm offshore alot and dont personally see alot of the failures, skype becomes awfull and then i get my wife to look at the router page and the connection speeds low again, but she wont phone them just waits till i get home.

Ive not requested a fixed rate yet, no. i had been hopeing it wouldnt come to that but....

Thing is with the current noise on the line and the high noise margin (seems to have always been quite high mind you)

do you think i'd even get a fixed rate 1Mb to be reasonably stable ?

You say find the cause of the noise and get the margin down but I'm conected to the master socket so that really only leaves the BT line and exchange doesnt it ? and they say its working

Re: My poor BB

do you have a test socket you can connect directly to with the router.  If you only have the one socket in your home it may not help unless the front plate of the master is faulty (not unheard of)  if there are other sockets did you remove the orange bellwire from terminal 3 on all sockets  http://www.filesaveas.com/jarviser/index.html

Re: My poor BB

I have the ADSL V1.0 faceplate with the 2 ports on the front 1bb 1phone this does come off to reveal 1 phone socket

that i ca nthen plug into with a micro filter instead.

I have done this before at the request of the BT fault reporting staff, and if really doesnt make any noticable difference.

I can always do it again for you, If the faceplate filtering parts were at fault here shouldnt connecting to the master/test with a filter give me a high synch when it connects and leave me with a low profile that 'should' rise over the next few days

while weve been on here ive seen the noise margin up as high as 23 and now at 20

No bell wires connected  nope
