Re: My poor BB

if your noise margin is jumping around then sorry but can you try the quiet line test again and see if you can hear noise.  there is no point in your making connection changes if there is a problem with the quiet line

There was a poster recently with the filtered faceplate which had a fault and connection improved in test socket - but that really is uncommon on the forum

Re: My poor BB

Okies just done another Quiet line test.

On picking up the reciever theres alot of noise you can hear over the dialtone,

with the quiet line test running after a few seconds it seems to go quiet but if you hold on the noise reccurs randomly, a scratchy crackling

Worth trying the quet line in the test socket ?

Re: My poor BB

Of course its worth it, why did i even post that,

Just taken the plate off and popped a filter in and just the phone, still random scratchy crackles

will leave it like this and see what occurs no point disconnecting it again

Thing is the lady from support tested the line and said it tested fine.

Re: My poor BB

well the change has improved your connection speed to 928 - not great but at least in right direction

if you try the quiet line test at random and still get noise/crackle then need to try 151 and complain about noise when making phone calls - no mention of broadband  - problem is with phone calls

Re: My poor BB

Aye,

I'll keep checking the noise and the routers page and try and keep records, the weathers good right now, not really windy and its dry.

If the speed doesnt get above 1Mb then i've 'only' lost about .6Mb of speed from what we've been getting for the last few years, but i dont hold out much hope of keeping this connection rate to be honest given the performance over the last 3 to 4 months.

What i did just see after trying to get onto Black ops is an apalling ping in the region of 900 to 1500ms compared to my usual 50 to 90 range. Ran the pingtest.net and get this... No online gaming for me

Re: My poor BB

you can check here to see if any exchange listed problems  http://usertools.plus.net/exchanges/mso.php

http://usertools.plus.net/exchanges/?

http://btbusiness.custhelp.com/app/service_status

http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/15036

if you can get rid of the noise you should manage to get 1.5mb and maybe more

Re: My poor BB

your connection speed is even worse than before and your noise margin is very high at 27 as normal about 6.  just need to wait now on engineer visit

Re: My poor BB

Well,

Engineer guy came out today did a few tests capacitance is high but prolly due to long line, theres a resistance difference

between the pair something around 50 ohms, he says that should be more like 2 ohms roughly.

Popped a sig generator on at y end and off he went to do his stuff down the line, came round a couple of hours later to tell me he's given up for the day on my fault !  Honestly i dont blame him and i  seriously dont feel an ill will, the back roads hes working are sheet ice and the lines run along some basic gravel roads so after falling over a few times and then getting his van stuck he's called it off till it thaws a bit. Fair doo.

He did say he'd got to a point not too far away where the signal was pretty good and given theres not much more line to

go from there he's sure theres a resolvable fault in the last run of wire, soo depending on the weather staying a bit warmer and whenever they can shedule him in again to test/fix the remaining overhead we might have a resolution.

Not sure what else he did whilee he was out there but when it was reconneced it synched at 1280Kbs which is faster than its done in ages and its been up 9 hours which is already a plus.

so thanks to the nice chappy today,

Gary
