I have had no issues this year with broadband, a stable 2Mbit with few to no disconnections, until recently.
A few weeks ago, BT finally upgraded the local exchange to 21CN after originally setting the official date to 31/03/10.
I received an email early on the morning of said upgrade date to say that it had been done and the usual, allow 7 days for it to settle.
Ever since, I have either been off the net or on the net with 120k approx.
I cannot stream videos, play online games, the only thing I can do right now is browse forums and check mail.
Here are the current router stats:
ADSL line status
|Connection time||0 days, 1:34:44|
|Noise margin (Down/Up)||11.8 dB / 17.0 dB|
|Line attenuation (Down/Up)||61.0 dB / 31.5 dB|
|Output power (Down/Up)||18.0 dBm / 12.5 dBm|
|Loss of Framing (Local)||0|
|Loss of Signal (Local)||0|
|Loss of Power (Local)||0|
|FEC Errors (Down/Up)||602 / 0|
|CRC Errors (Down/Up)||8 / 2147480000|
|HEC Errors (Down/Up)||nil / 0|
|Error Seconds (Local)|
your exchange may have been upgraded but you have not. your modulation is 992.1 which is adslmax.
you have a 2mb connection and with an attenuation of 61 live quite a way from the exchange. can you run btspeedtester and post the results
Test1 comprises of two tests
1. Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
|0 Kbps||250 Kbps|
Max Achievable Speed
| Download speedachieved during the test was - 51 Kbps|
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 100-250 Kbps.
Your DSL Connection Rate :2464 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 148 Kbps
The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 9.76:16.84:73.4 (SBE:NBE:PBE)
These figures represent the ratio while sententiously passing Sub BE, Normal BE and Priority BE marked traffic.
The results of this test will vary depending on the way your ISP has decided to use these traffic classes.
2. Upstream Test: -provides background information.
|0 Kbps||448 Kbps|
Max Achievable Speed
>Upload speed achieved during the test was - 332 Kbps
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 448 Kbps
How do I go about getting the modulation changed please?
Browse up time is short is that because you have switched off a lot ? it should be left on line 24 7 to let your profile settle
Have you tried a quite line test
dial 17070 option 2 and listen - should hear nothing
best done with old type analogue phone digital will do but may have slight hiss
do not use home hub phone
as noise on the line can cause the low profile
Thank you for you're help with this, how does one go about changing the modulation type please? As samknows has the exchange upgraded with 21CN back in March of this year which still leaves me puzzled as to why I received an email from BT telling me I was upgraded over 2 weeks ago.
And from my modulation type I am still on ADSLMAX.
with an attenuation of 61 an upgrade to 21CN would probably make no difference to you and may, because 21CN is more aggressive with noise problems, result in more problems than you have at present you can check here to see what I mean http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/max_speed_calc.php
Only BT can do that
You may have to sign for a new 12 month contract
and go here and enter your line attenuation from stats to see what you could expect http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/max_speed_calc.php
you will see nothing to gain due to 4.4K line length which is probably why you have not been upgraded
