Sorry, one thought, could the other problem that I seem to have, wiith the internet doppping when the phone is used, be coming into play here? ie screwing up the profile?

it's not really the profile it's your sync speed which is very low even when connected to the test socket.  Your phone problem may be linked to it though

Re: Network upgraded, download slow, upload much faster!

So the engineer has been and left about 20 mins ago. Thanks to Stuart for arranging.

Visit lasted about 2hrs. Testing did not show any problem with the line. I have been 'capped' at a low speed/rating which resulted in the 128K down. The engineer believes my router to be unsuitable for 21CN (it's a ver 1.5 white), and it needs upgrading NOW. Due to the router being unsuitable it has been dropping the connection, this in turn has lead to me getting a low speed profile and a cap being applied. I have been advised to wait for 2hrs for the notes to go on the system and call BT to dispatch a new suitable router.

Does this make sense and seem right to any experts out there. Right now I am still only getting 128K down. Stats from my router below.

Comments welcome..please! I think/hope I am getting there.

Lee.

Oh and my profile has been reset to a higher speed as seen in the router stats, speed still 128K as mentioned, guess this takes time to build up?

The old hub 1.5 is ADSL2+ capable, and the fact that you are synced at 11257 kb proves this.

You may find that this will reduce, as the exchange finds the most stable speed.

The IP profile will take a while to adjust itself, so the actual download speed may be slow at first.

Re: Network upgraded, download slow, upload much faster!

Hi Keith,

Now Sunday evening. I have seen a small increase in speed, now getting about 350Kb down so better than 128Kb but way off where I was. Given that the IP profile was reset at about 10.30/11.00 Thurs morning when should I see normal speeds?

Thanks.

Re: Network upgraded, download slow, upload much faster!

can you post the adsl stats from your router may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or use a-z, if netgear enter 192.168.0.1) and run btspeedtester http://speedtester.bt.com and post the results.

Someone may then be able to offer assistance

Re: Network upgraded, download slow, upload much faster!

stats look good apart from the upsync which I would have expected to be 800/1000.  what about btspeedtester?

Re: Network upgraded, download slow, upload much faster!

Here are the speedtester results, it keeps asking to do a 'last test' which requires some reconfig, should I be doing that?:

Download speedachieved during the test was - 54 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 100-250 Kbps.
 Additional Information:
 Your DSL Connection Rate :11257 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 440 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 135 Kbps
The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 0.0:17.55:82.45 (SBE:NBE:PBE)
These figures represent the ratio while sententiously passing Sub BE, Normal BE and Priority BE marked traffic.

The results of this test will vary depending on the way your ISP has decided to use these traffic classes.

Upload speed achieved during the test was - 334 Kbps
 Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 440 Kbps
