Re: New Digital Voice home phone service on BT

I took out fttp and got digital voice with new bt Handset, i cannot get the caller id to work it just keeps saying incoming call.
ive tried to contact bt and got fed up with waiting over 30 mins each time.
tried online to get help in the forum to no avail.
Have check account settings and says active.
*#234# says ive dialed incorrect number.
intried to log an issue but it says cannot fix fault online and to call so a vicious circle.
anyone got an idea.

Re: New Digital Voice home phone service on BT

Report it as a landline fault via My BT online.  Caller Display has been free since 2018 but it sounds like it somehow wasn't added as part of your order when the Digital Voice service was processed.  Or try asking for Sales on 150 as those agents can check what services are active and can add to them if something has been missed.  On the downside they'll try to sell you $KY or NOW or Sports!

Re: New Digital Voice home phone service on BT

A lot of non technical people read these forums, I wonder if you could explain better the terminology in terms that non technical people may understand. I refer to the constant use of abbreviations such as , UPS, FTTC that you all take for granted.

Hi @maxwell2121   UPS = Uninterrupted Power Supply (so if the mains electricity gets cut off it provides emergency power). FTTC = Fibre to the Cabinet (copper from Cabinet to the home) as against FTTP = Fibre to the Premises.

Re: New Digital Voice home phone service on BT

ONT - the optical to Ethernet interface.
CSP - the Optical connection Joint from the street to your home internal fibre which then goes to the ONT.
PON - the type of fibre service which relies on prismatic splitting of the fibre signal to supply several customers which requires no electrical supply but is ‘passive’ in as much as it potentially reduces the fibre signal strength.

Re: New Digital Voice home phone service on BT

Just a point came to mind today about the DV handsets provided by BT.  They are very good for the BT DV service but I have a VIOP line for business with another phone number from another provider which does not come through on the BT DV handsets.  That is where the DV socket on the HH comes into its own.  I have a Gigaset DECT system plugged into the HH which enables all of the handsets on that system to answer/make all calls, whether from the BT (fixed) line, via the 2nd VOIP provider or via my BT mobile handset (connected to the DECT base by Bluetooth).

Re: New Digital Voice home phone service on BT

As far as I am aware, the difference is the new service uses the Smart Hub 2 as a DECT terminal, the Tel port on the ONT being non active. This does restrict you to a) using the Home Hub 2 as your router and b) using a BT supplied telephone that is designed to work with Home Hub 2. I believe, but cannot confirm, that there is way, using an ATA (Analogue Telephone Adaptor) unit, to connect an existing telephone to the new Digital Voice service.
