New Modem Router

After Loosing all my hair in trying to get my AVM Fritz!Box 7390 Wroking stable I finially gave up and have now had it refunded.

Problems that i had with the Fritz!Box were as follows:

Poor Wifi (Worst Wifi I have ever used)

Kept dropping Connection (6 - 7 times a day)

Kept Restarting (3 - 5 Times a day)

My next option I believe is a Draytek 2850n which I think I should have purchased in the first place but saying that im wondering whats everyones views on the Draytek? has anyone used the 2850?

I have previously had a 2820n and that was the best device i ever used...

OK after much reading around i think that i am going to take the plunge and get the 2850n

P.s. Where is the best place to buy this from? DABS are doing it for £202

Just a little note, you will still need the Openreach modem, just make sure your new router supports WAN PPPoA

As far as I am aware I can do away with the OR Modem as the Draytek has a built in VDSL Modem

Yes, the Draytek mentioned would replace both the Openreach modem and the Home Hub. Billion - and others I'm sure - also sells a modem/router that would replace both. The Billion 7800N that I have still needs the Openreach modem but has a EWAN port and works very well in place of the Home Hub.

Interesting - I hadn't thought about using an alternative to the HH. It's attractive to have 1 box rather than 2, and I strongly suspect the quality and performance of the Dratek will be better.

I see that shop.bt.com are advertising the 2850n for an equal best price.

Oops, just found the show-stopper:

"The Vigor 2850 is a variant of our Vigor 2830 series with the addition of an extra VDSL interface (for the BT Infinity™ service) for connectivity up to 50Mb/s."

Up to 50Mb/s is unacceptable with 80 anfaster just around the corner.

I think you will find that is old copy as the 2850n supports 17a and 30a VDSL profiles which offer speeds up to 100Mb/s and 150 mb/s respectively.  I own the older 2750n which currently indicates a maximum speed of over 90Mb/s from 17a on my line. The spec can be found here.
