New Number getting notifications for person who previous had that number.

Go to solution

Okay so at first it was kind of funny but then I realised it is quite serious.

Since I put my new sim card in my mobile phone I have had notifications for the old owner of the number: from NHS (no reply) with his her STDs results (test taken in January) , a phone call from Birmingham hospital which I called back and was a general switchboard. A text conversation with someone insisting I was Charlie, texts from Empire showing me when the delivery is arriving in Devon, I am in Derbyshire and not a Empire customer and a text today from a lovely Mama Westley who had taken the dog out and made fish pie.

Can I either have a new number and maybe a nice sorry card for the inconvience caused by BT giving me the number that someone else only gave up in January 18? Oh and will I still get my cahsback reward of £100 from the January deal I signed up too in December?

or

Can BT arrange for my life to become happier and more interesting so I don't feel down and depressed about hearing allsorts of information about someone living the dream? Oh course I will give needing a test for STDs a miss.

By the way it is a good thing I am getting these messages and not a person who has a less understanding partner.

Kind Regards

Sarah

Hello @QuietlyLoud

The best thing to do is have a conversation with the mobile chat team using the link  BT Mobile Chat Team

They should be able to sort out your issues, if not pop back and ask one of the Moderators to look into it for you!

Hello,

Mobile numbers are reallocated after 120 days from the previous owner ending service with that number. A renumber should be able to be completed by BT if you call or complete a chat with your account number. If you renumber that would not affect any sign up offers you had at the time.

Thank you guys.

I contacted the mobile team and they gave me a new number.

They said the previous owner could have been dead or not have paid there bill and that would explain why I was getting texts for them in January  ie the previolus owner had not changed their number once they were no longer using the old one.

They also said that I would still be able to claim cashback.

I will start another thread on that because the original questions here have been answered.

Thank you again

🙂
