All of the discs have now updated and running latest Firmware and after a restart are now working correctly. Will monitor uptime from now on.
Note: This firmware does not fix a known issue causing the primary disc to intermittently become stuck in a red LED state (can be seen when connected to Virgin Hub 3). Keep an eye on the forums for an update about a follow-up firmware update in the coming weeks.
Delighted there's a new firmware update. Disappointed that the above known issue isn't resolved and that the resolution will be in a few weeks.
What is the status of the known issue?
Is there a known fix? Where is that in the development cycle?
Can a little more technical detail be provided about the root cause of the issue?
What is the forecast date for the next firmware update?
Has anyone previously reported issues with having multiple ethernet connections into the back of a Virgin Hub 3.0 (of which BT Whole Home Premium is one)?
I have a VM Hub 3.0 and haven’t had the red light on master disc issue. I do however have a Netgear router between the hub and BT disc with the hub set in modem mode.
I assume that gets around the problem?
Thanks for the info @GaryMo. I saw elsewhere (either on another forum or another thread) that a router placed between hub and disc seemed to resolve the issue. I wasn't really expecting to fork out for a new router to workaround this though. What are the merits of doing so?
@Daftie I'm only guessing but I think that it is a possibility that the issue is due to DHCP incompatibilities between the Virgin Hub and the BT disc which could be rectified by using an alternative router (different DHCP server).
The Disc apparently stands between your router and your devices and acts as a DHCP relay seemingly relaying IP addresses on behalf of the router and in addition including it's own IP address as the gateway so that it is able to monitor and control all traffic passing through it.
It could be that the premium wifi disc doesn't like the responses that it gets from a Virgin Hub.
Massively not impressed that this update turned on a completely open guest network without my knowledge!!!
Luckily I've been messing about with some devices and discovered it, the app had no knowledge of it and said guest WiFi was disabled but the web front-end said different and it was all turned on with no security 😡
I just followed the info in this thread though should be the same for all routers really
The main thing is setting your VM Hub to modem mode and when done the primary disc connects to your third party router.
