New Whole Home Wi-Fi Firmware released 18-03-19 (version 1.02.08 build02)

This is a post for BT Whole Home Wi-Fi (white discs).   If you have Complete Wi-Fi and Smart Hub 2 (black discs), then see and post on this other thread where the right people will be able to help you; the two systems are different and not compatible and use different firmware and apps (Complete Wi-Fi uses the MyBT app).

Hi everybody,

It’s that time again.  We’re releasing new firmware today for your Whole Home Wi-Fi discs, which is the same as the early adopter firmware that we made available last month (for anyone who was interested in trying it prior to the public launch).

This introduces the rollback feature, so you can revert to the previous release (v1.02.06 build12), should you want to do so.

What’s new?  This new version v1.02.08 build02 further improves the overall performance of your Whole Home Wi-Fi network:

  • Updated system Wi-Fi driver
  • System stability enhancements
  • Fixed an issue where some devices could be incorrectly prevented from accessing the Internet
  • Improvement to prevent some devices wrongly showing “incorrect password” message when connecting to Wi-Fi

Upgrade advice:

  • After the update, we recommend you leave your discs for two days to allow them to settle into their configuration
  • During this time your Wi-Fi connection will be working fine, but you may see lights turning orange and blue and short drops in connection. If this happens we recommend not moving your discs or adjusting any settings
  • When your network has settled, you may also notice that the disc layout displayed on the App is different or that your devices connect to a different disc – this is completely normal
  • If you have good internet connection on all your devices, your Whole Home Wi-Fi is working properly so there should be no need to tamper with its layout or network configuration

If the new firmware is not working as you’d like, try powering off/on all the discs at the socket and allow them to reconnect and settle. If you still need help afterwards, come back to us on this forum, or contact the helpdesk on 0808 100 6116 or email btconnectedhome@bt.com so that we understand your issue and help fix it

Re: New Whole Home Wi-Fi Firmware released 18-03-19 (version 1.02.08 build02)

Installed it this morning.  Went fine and discs settled down into the usual configuration straight away.  Most obvious difference is that each of the wi-fi connected discs is showing better signal strength - around 5 dBm better than before the update even though they're connected to exactly the same discs.  I assume this is down to the new wi-fi driver, but not sure if they're just reporting higher signal strength or whether the transmit power has been increased - I forgot to check the RSSI on my devices before the update so can't do a compare from a device.

Re: New Whole Home Wi-Fi Firmware released 18-03-19 (version 1.02.08 build02)

Just updated to latest firmware, however I had 3 units daisy chained on previous firmware. On reboot, the third unit showed poor connection and also connected to the first unit. After numerous attempts of rebooting the third unit, it now shows a good connection, but still connected to the main unit according to the topology. I cannot get the third unit to connect to the second unit as previously. Just a thought, maybe it is connected to the second unit and daisy chained and the displayed topology is incorrect.

Hi,

Sorry, but I am slighly confused by this latest update.

When you say that it is intended for Whole Home Wi-Fi discs, is it  just for the 'white' ones, or has new firmware been issued for the 'black' ones, as provided with the "Complete Wi-Fi" package, also?

Many Thanks.

As the subject says, the update is for Whole Home Wi-Fi (white discs) not for Complete Wi-Fi (black discs)

Hi @protos55 , you should let the system settle for a couple of days and it'll find its optimum configuration. Constantly rebooting will interfere with that process.

The new firmware and wi-fi drivers have some range improvement in some scenarios, so it might be that your system will settle in a different (and better) configuration than under previous firmware.

Hope this helps.

Re: New Whole Home Wi-Fi Firmware released 18-03-19 (version 1.02.08 build02)

I and many others had this issue on the early adopter version of this software. Discs no longer daisy chained, my 3rd disc only connected to the first one despite much worse signal for the disc and worse performance for devices connected to the 3rd disc. No amount of ‘settling’ resolved this.

Be interested to see if this does revert back to daisy chasing, for now my auto update is switch off!

There is a rollback feature for those who have issues.

Obviously everyone's mileage varies...but mine were daisy-chained before, and have daisy-chained in exactly the same way.

24 hours later, all looking good, all 3 units now daisy chained.
