You can use it right away, if you have any existing BT Broadband service.

switch over from what old style adsl? switching ISP?

I do already have broadband just bt sent new box out no idea install it now or if there start up date ?

As @Keith_Beddoe said you can just connect it replacing your existing hub. Any wireless devices will need to be connected to the new hub as it has a different name and password
