Newsgroups Failure

Go to solution

I am no longer able to access the newsgroup service provided for Bt Internet users at news.btinternet.com. I get a 480 authentication required error. Authentication has not been required.

I had access on 13 Jan 14. I tried again on 20 Jan 14 and frequently since, but no access. This occurs on two PCs and three news readers.

Looking at bt.com/broadband/help I notice there is info on newsgroups under BT Yahoo! Mail, but in BT Mail there is no mention of newsgroups.

Suspicion suggests that as a result of the changes to BT Mail the newsgroup service has or will disappear? Does anyone know if this is so, please.

I tried phoning internet faults, and they had no idea what a newsgroup was.

Regards

Newsgroups are still alive and well. I think there have been problems in the past with various IP address ranges, so might be worth disconnecting your router to get a new IP address. Can't remember the range that was giving problems though.

Thanks licquorice, that's cured it.

Now that I can access the newsgroups, I can read in bt.broadband.support the recent thread all about this.
