No Broadband will force move from BT E mail address

Go to solution

Hello

I am thinking of moving just 2 miles up the road to a place that has the same STD code but only around 0.5 Broadband Speed whereas I now have about 5.0.

This will mean that unless the speed increases I will be forced to leave BT.

Can I keep mt BT E mail address if I leave for a reason which isn't my fault and can I get any information on when the broadband speed is likely to increase to an acceptable level?

Thank you

You can check your new exchange using this link.

Broadband availability checker

Unless you can find a cable provider, who use their own network to provide broadband, then all other ISPs will use the same copper pairs to your house, so your speed is going to be the same.

If you change ISP and want to keep your BT Internet e-mail address, you have to pay for Premium Mail.

Details here.

Sky still use the same copper pairs provided by Openreach, so you are still left with the same problem.

BT Infinity may be an option, when its avaiable in the area you are moving to.

Thanks for the help.

Is there really no way of getting Broadband other than through these copper wires.

EG Sky Sat.

Thanks

Sky do not use their satellite network for broadband, only TV. In remote areas there are Internet providers using satellites, but they are expensive.

Sky either install their own broadband equipment in the exchange, or resell the BT Wholesale product, but both use the copper wires.

Thanks. I must be very ignorant on this as had no idea they all used the same cables.

So essentially they will all have the same rubbish speed 0.5 and that's unlikely to get better as it's a smallish village
