Re: No Dial Tone - CA initially returned

Go to solution

Always useful to have a corded phone handy , even if it’s normally in a cupboard or drawer and only used for this purpose ( or power cuts ) .
If no dialtone at the test socket, whatever the issue is , it’s an Openreach issue to resolve, and you can report it as NDT , chances are the supplier will also get the ‘CA’ indicator, so be prepared for the chat about potential charges , you can accept this ( because you have already established the problem as external )
As already stated broadband will work , albeit poorly, over 1 leg of the copper pair, with the CA test results and broadband ‘working’ , I would hazard a guess as ‘dis 1 leg’ at somewhere close to your home .

Is  service provided overhead ? the problem could possibly in the dropwire or at the block at the top of the pole, but the exact location of the fault doesn’t matter as long as it’s repaired

Reported last night (did take a while to get through) but the agent was very helpful; turned out it was an outside the house fault and all fixed by 10.00 this morning, so good job BT.

Thxs to you all again.
