No aerial!!!!

So I got infinty 2 and TV essentials.

I dont have a TV aerial so am missing all free view channels.

I could swear that there was no mention of needing an aerial (apart form in the T&Cs)

I ordered online. Like a n00b.

I'm kinda stuck really aren't I.

I compared overall 12month prices with the other major high speed ISP and BT worked out cheaper by about £60 (inc a £100 voucher)

Now I have to fork out £120 for a TV aerial on the roof which means I'm paying 10 mnth more than I was expecting.

Can anyone provide me with a leg to stand on to get things cancelled?

I have complained to the ASA but thats a long shot.

Infinity is awesome though. 9MB/second all day every day no matter what. 20mbit upload is sexy as well.

(what are the chances of putting free sat throught the youviewbox?)

Re: No aerial!!!!

As you said, it was in the T&C, which you should have read before ordering.

You cannot cancel without paying the full cancellation charges, which would be very expensive.

A satellite connection will not work.

Re: No aerial!!!!

what I'm grassing BT up for is hiding fundamental information in T&Cs.

an asterisk would be more fitting on all BT TV adverts

I don't hold out much hope.

The BT website clearly refers to "Up to 70 Freeview TV and radio channels".

As Freeview only comes via an aerial it's impossible to claim that BT are hiding the need for one from you or other potential buyers.

Before spending money on a roof aerial, why not go spend £5 in Argos for an indoor one and see whether that works for you?

I wouldn't hold out much hope either.

It is stated in plenty of places.

Have a look here in the FAQ:

http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProducts/displayTopic.do?topicId=35167

And stated all over the place that FREEVIEW on TV with or without Youview requires an aerial.

Re: No aerial!!!!

How the hell did you miss it? You will not have a case at all, the fact you did it online makes it even more obvious you need one...

Just going through the signup process myself online and it gives you a full page asking you to confirm whether you have an aerial?!

Re: No aerial!!!!

@olly230, if this is any help, we have a fairly ordinary TV aerial in our loft, angled correctly, (not outside on the roof) & receive all the freeview channels. We are in a strong Digi signal area (but it's strong pretty well everywhere now.) Could this solution perhaps work in your case? A secondhand aerial would possibly do the job.

Re: No aerial!!!!

How about a plea of diminished responsibility?

Is a contract enforceable if one party has clearly demonstrated that they are unable to understand what they are contracting for?

Re: No aerial!!!!

Glad I done a quick google search. Was about to cancel my Sky and add on to my infinity the tv service, this was the chat I had earlier with BT support:

[01:55:52 PM] Me: Ok thanks, so would I be able to view all the normal bt tv without an aerial?
[01:56:11 PM] BT: Yes
[01:57:31 PM] Me: what even the normal channels like bbc etc?
[01:59:31 PM] BT: Yes i have checked and you will get BBC
[02:00:26 PM] Me: Ok thanks, sorry to keep asking so definitely without an aerial and using the broadband connection I could get the normal freeview channels and then the extra channels like sky sports and bt sport?
[02:01:44 PM] BT: Yes you will

Thanks.
