No change in speed

After 15 days waiting on the switch on, and 10 days settling in, keeping the hub on.  My speed is just the same as the day my broadband was switched on, even though the line has settled down.

Re: No change in speed

Your connection speed should be about 5536Kbs but something is restricting it.

Which type of master socket do you have, and are you plugged directly into it?

One of these

Or one of these

Or if you are lucky

Re: No change in speed

Thats what I'm thinking Keith, and I'm in the middle.  I'm basically back in the parents for a few months, where I did have internet before.  I'm on a wired conntection to the same socket.  I cannot get to the master socket as its in the living room.

Re: No change in speed

Rang BT and actually got a very helpful person.  Did a line test and there is a circuit breakdown at the exchange which is due to be fixed tomorrow. All's well that ends well.... I hope.   Thanks Keith.

Well I hope that is the problem. Your noise margin is quite low for your connection speed, which means that there is something limiting the bandwidth, either noise, or something causing a loss of signal at your end.

A phone or Sky box without a filter is usually the problem.

If you still have problems, perhaps you can explain what else you have connected to your line.

Thanks

I did wonder. Hopefully that has fixed the problem.

Re: No change in speed

Just A quick update.  I noticed some lag over the last few days so reset my modem when it got to 3mb, now it won't go past 2.5mb. I can see the noise line down has risen and the up has done nothing.  I have also did a line check from a cordless (which is all I have) and there doesnt seem to be anu noise.  I also went around and opened all sockets, and there is no test socket.  Any ideas?

Re: No change in speed

looks like the exchnage has ben a bit aggressive on your connection due to a few resets recently and moved your noise margin to 12.6 with the resulting drop in connection speed.  you now need to leave and get 3+ days connection and if noise margin still above normal 6db then conatct the mods and get it reset to 6 with corresponding speed increase
