Hi. I moved house this week and I am new to BT. There is no openreach modem in our house (one been installed but is missing).
Awaiting time for new one is 3 weeks ( that could extend due coronovirus). I dont have to tell you how annoying is that. Mobile signal is so bad and we don't able browse internet and I can't work from home anymore.
My question is : if I get modem from Ebay, if that will work ? How to make it working? Thanks
U mean the ONT missing ? Or router?
No ONT ( engineer call it white box). I have router.
You mean one of these?
Yes. Can I buy one from ebay? Is one near me

No, they have to be registered on the network before they will work.
So can I connect router without 'white box?I can't wait that long for engineer with that.

No, if there is only a fibre coming into the property. You cannot connect a router into that, as it needs an optical modem (ONT).
You may be able to use a BT Wifi/FON hotspot to get Internet access if there is one within range, or get hold of a mobile broadband hub, if you have a 3G or 4G mobile signal.
If there is a copper cable pair coming into the house, you may be able to ask BT to provide standard broadband with a connection speed up to 13Mbs.
