Noise margin

Hi,

 

I had 5.5MB connection, until BT upograded my exchange, ACCRINGTON a few weeks ago.

 

My connection was 9.5Mb for a few days, but by the end of the 10 days it had dropped as my V1 Hub was re-setting constantly.

 

I spoke to BT who sent me a new v2 Hub. which has been connected directly to the test socket.

 

My noise margin is high and does not seem to be dropping, and I assume this is why mt IP profile has been set to 1750

 

 

I have atatched my router stats, an speedteser results(The errors were from me removing the fromt plate on my BT socket to get to the test socket. They have not increased at all for over 5 days)

 

What can I do to improve my speed?  I apprieciate any help you can offer.

Hi

 

For your atten of 16 db you should get between 16 to 20 odd meg of your line, the high noise margin is what is killing the speed, do you have any noise on the telephone line, try 17070 option2 for quiet test, if it is noisy then you need to report that.

 

Since you are in the test socket, try swapping the filter over ensure filter first, swapped the RJ11 cable ends around, it seems there is something stopping the service getting up too speed, usually the BRAS ip profile starts to configure the line within 3 - 5 days and DLM should take care of the noise margin and bring it back down.

 

I would suggest calling BT and get a line test ran as well as you may have a fault on your line.

DLM won't bring noise margins down.

 

Curing impulse noise (if pssible) brings margins down.

 

DLM sets the line speed according to the attenuation, fault error levels/timeframe and margin level.   😉

I have tried the quiet line test and it seems clear, no noticeable noise at all.

 

I have changed the filter for the other one that came with the new hub, and swapped the RJ11 cable round.

 

Where do I go from here ?

Now just leave it alone ... connected 24/7, no more resets.

 

See if any improvement takes place.

 

Could take up to 5 days.
