Can someone confirm or otherwise what BT told me today please, which was:- When some one is under Section, and an inmate in a Mental Health Hospital, and therefore not in a fit state to pay their bill, the unpaid bill will still be given to a debt collection agency which could/would, incurr more charges, lead to court action, bailiffs and posible forced entry into their property. A BT guy said "This is the law"
Under the circumstances this seems over the top and adding to the mental overload of the customer, or to put it another way, inhuman.
There is no legal dispensation to allow non payments of debt for anybody suffering from mental health issues. It would be up to individual companies to decide how they would proceed in each individual case.
Ultimately the debt could be dealt with by a debt collecting agency, who could and probably would levy a fee/charge but they can not force entry or instruct bailiffs without there being a court order in place to allow this.
