Not getting Infinity

Go to solution

Hi

I just moved into a flat and found that I am only able to get 5Mb download.  I have checked the post code and it says I can't get Infinity.

Across the road, they are getting Infinity but I can't see the cabinet they are connected to (A big green one with Infinity Is Here on it normally).  There seems to be 2 old style cabinets near by.

So how are they getting it and not me?

Post Code CM7 3RQ

Regards

Peter

You're not connected to a cabinet. You have an exchange-only line.

So how can I be moved off an exchange-only line as I am on a speed that I was on in around 2004?

I moved from having near 50Mb at one end of town to 5Mb at the other end and this is nearer the exchange

The current thinking is to install a cabinet outside the exchange and connect EO lines to that.

If you are on an Exchange Only (EO) line you can not be changed to another cabinet. At the moment you will not be able to get Infinity. Sometime in the future, who knows when, Openreach may install a cabinet out side your exchange and this will allow EO line to then get Infinity. At the moment all you can do is wait and see.

Re: Not getting Infinity

So okay I am on an Exchange Only line.

Why am I only getting 2Mb when I am only straight line distance of 775 metres?

Surely ADSL should be giving me about 8Mb according to

http://www.broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk/guides/adsl_and_distance.aspx

Perhaps I am on a wet bit of string instead of copper Smiley Mad

You need to get your Router stats and ask in the appropriate forum https://community.bt.com/t5/ADSL-Copper-Broadband-Speed/bd-p/BBinHome

Re: Not getting Infinity

That depends on the router. For a HH5, it's in Troubleshooting, Helpdesk on the web interface. But you should ask in the forum I linked to.
