If this was explained directly to the helpdesk i work on, we would not focus on remoting on to your laptop but by focusing on the BT Home Hub.
Again, i feel that certain departments work from a script and not using common sense.

Well she did say a replacement had been sent and should arrive tuesday... mind you as its bank holiday weekend I douby it will arrive before Wednesday at the earliest!
In fairness to BT i came from o2 whose call centers are all UK based and their CS general expertise was on par with village idiot, you occasionly got lucky but most of the time it was a nightmare,
