I inherited a Optical Network Termination (ONT) setup from the previous owner of my house. I have just got and Apple Airport Extreme and thought I could simply plug the AE into the white ONT box's ethernet. This didn't work. I used the the AE said "noPPPoE server could be found". I used the setup desccribed here: https://community.bt.com/t5/BT-Infinity-Speed-Connection/Airport-Extreme-set-up-with-BT-Infinity-Hub... (firstname.lastname@example.org etc)
It worked when I plugged it into homehub3 though wiht a static setup.
Should the AE work with the ONT box without any other equipment? I thought the ONT box was the modem and the AE could just act as a wirless router?
My setup is like the one below (but I have green lights!)
Surely you can connect the AE WAN port directly to the modem.
I believe its Lan1 on the ONT modem to the bottom (wan) port on the apple.
....... need to plug in to Port/Lan1 on the Openreach modem.
Setting up ONT
Can it be confirmed that there were no issues with directly connecting the AE to the ONT via the WAN. In the past I've had an FTTC install and have used the widely circulated PPPOE login details to connect a TC, do these still work as I fancy myself a shiny new router to complement my 300mbit connection 😎
