OR modem direct to PC.?

Is it possible to plug the ethernet cable from the LAN1 port on the OR modem directly into the ethernet port on my PC.

Would it work.?

The reason I ask is because I do not intend to continue linking any other devices or PCs into a home network, and intend to use just my main system.?

Am I correct in assuming that my router [or the HH3] are only needed for more than 1 device.?

Re: OR modem direct to PC.?

I have not done it myself with Infinity but setting up a direct connection from a PC to the OR modem should be simple.

In Windows 7 go to Network and Sharing Centre choose to set up a new internet connection, choose "PPOE" as the option and enter "bthomehub@btbroadband.com" as the user and leave the password blank and Robert should be your mother's brother.

Remember as your PC is directly visible on the internet good security software is even more vital.

Re: OR modem direct to PC.?

Thanks! Infinechris and pippincp.
I might not do it but just wanted the info in case.
One thing though,I use my email address xxxxx.btinternet.com and my email PW with my belkin router at this time and it works ok.
Could I just use the same info for a direct connection if I decide to do it.?
Thanks again.

It will help you rule out a router problem for one.
