Hi,
I'm hoping someone can help with my sudden loss of speed again.
Back in May 2017 I suddenly suffered a 25% slowdown in speeds but after enquiries and tests I was told there was nothing anyone could do, despite my having consistently enjoyed much higher rates for some time. It appeared I'd have to grin and bear it when, equally suddenly, in November, with no changes at my end, my speeds improved and remained stable until 28th January. Since then there have been all sorts of strange goings on!!!
I've run all the checks but it all seems to stem from a day at the end of January when I had flashing orange on my Hub5 more or less all day.
Here are the diagnostics, ADSL check, Hub info and a number of WAN log results:-

The Quiet Line Test on 17070 option 2 was quiet with no crackling according to my wife who was GPO trained.
Why the SNR margin increase from 3.1 to 6.1 to 9.1??? Have Open Reach been working on the line or the cabinet?
Also why the periodic disconnects and not noticed previously, the DoS UDP Loopback & Port Scanning ?
Sorry for the long post but I hope someone can help?

Solved! Go to Solution.
all the resets 15+ since end of January have resulted in the higher noise margin of 9db causing the drop in connection speed. apart from quiet line test have you tried anything else to try and get a stable connection?
have you tried using the test socket with a filter to see if that stops the drop in connection and stabilises your line
Hi, Thanks for your response. I haven't tried re-wiring on this occasion but did it last year and the year before all to no avail. I'm convinced it's outside and either BT or Open Reach. Nevertheless, I'll try it again and post an update.

Hi,
Just an update following your suggestions. I rewired the house again and connected direct to the Test Socket for 40 hours; during that time I had 2 DSL links down and the SNRs continued at 9.1 down and worsened to 7.1-8.1 up. At about 14 hours in (about 9am on 13/02) I was switched back from Fast to Interleaved but speeds and SNRs remain stubbornly disappointing with bandwidth 1276/15285. Changed back to usual cabling about 4 hours ago and results remain the same. I'm still convinced therefore that it's outside and either OpenReach or BT but, of course my speeds are within the "acceptable range" so it looks as though I'm stuck with a 20% reduction against my pre end of January speeds.
Any other suggestions or do I just have to wait and see if things improve?
Thanks again for your input.

if you cannot maintain a stable conenction then the noise margin will not reduce and therefore your speed will not improve. if you have used test socket and still dropping connection then you need to phone 151 and get engineer visit
there is no point in asking mods to reset your noise margin which would increase your speed because with your unstable conenction you would be back where you are now in days
Hi,
Thanks again; I'll let it settle for a bit and then see if I can get an engineer to check. I'll be back!

Hi,
Can I have a noise margin reset now? I've not made any changes at my end since, as I said originally, I'm convinced it was BT/Open Reach causing the problem. Saw an engineer at one of the cabinets a few days ago and presto, everything has been steady since. Present uptime 7 days + . Here are details from my log:-

5.ADSL uptime: 4 days, 04:40:44
6.Bandwidth:1276 / 15285
All OK for 4 days 10 hours 14 minutes and then ????? Why???? Changed latency to "fast" .....Why????

as connection appears stable with 7 days connected see if mods will reset your noise margin back to 6db they will post here
Thanks IMJ, I'll look forward to that.
