Old payphone - who does it belong to?

I work in a sheltered housing scheme and we have an old payphone which hasn't been used for at least 15 years.

What I'd like to know is: a) am I OK to remove it, or does it need to be someone from BT? and b) If I'm Ok to remove it, whose property is it i.e. does it need to be returned to BT?

is the phone still connected and working eg, has a dial tone

If it's not connected to an active line the chances are no one is paying line rental. What version of payphone is it (picture?)
