Re: On BT Infinity 2, speed is less than minimum and less than Infinity 1

Hi @miketja and thanks for posting.

The guys are right here. You'll need an engineer visit to get to the bottom of this. Can you please drop me over an email with your details and I'll get that sorted for you. You'll get the contact the moderators link in my profile.

Cheers

Re: On BT Infinity 2, speed is less than minimum and less than Infinity 1

Thanks everyone for your help.  Quick update: the Openreach engineer came today, did his tests, but can't find any line fault. He got the port reset and the sync speed is now 53mbps down, 11.5mbps up.  It's still below the BT minimum and I don't believe it'll stay at this rate for long. BT has said they'll call tomorrow once they get the data from the Openreach visit today, so hopefully there's something else that can be done.

Re: On BT Infinity 2, speed is less than minimum and less than Infinity 1

I'm not suggesting that another provider can provide a faster service.

What I'm trying to understand, as explained previously in this thread, why I started at 60mbps, dropped to 49mbps, then 40mbps, then 35mbps, and was at 33mbps (with only 6mbps upstream) before the Openreach engineer turned up yesterday.

He did his tests, got the line reset and I'm now back at 53mbps. But for how long?

- Mike

Provided that the error rate on the line stays low, then there should be no change. I assume that a fault was found, perhaps noise on the line?

No. As I said, the Openreach engineer found no line faults and it passed all his tests.

See how it goes, but no manual restarts or disconnections, otherwise you could be back to a slow speed again.

There is a short explanation of DLM here https://community.bt.com/t5/ADSL-Copper-Broadband-Speed/Technical-Glossary/td-p/1434070#_Toc40878352...

Or a more detailed one covering ADSL and BT Infinity here.

https://community.bt.com/t5/ADSL-Copper-Broadband-Speed/How-to-speed-up-return-to-normal-ADSL-speeds...

Its a bit dated now, but the idea is the same.

Yes, I'm familiar with DLM and I'm very careful to not reboot my router/modem unless it's absolutely necessary. It's fairly stable, so the typical scenario is that I lose broadband completely for a few minutes (for some unknown reason) and when it comes back online, the rate will have dropped. I work from home a lot, so I notice when the broadband drops.

I'll keep an eye on it in the coming weeks and see what happens.  I missed the callback from BT today, so I'll hopefully hear tomorrow if they've anything else they want to try.

Re: On BT Infinity 2, speed is less than minimum and less than Infinity 1

I have exactly the same problem here - https://community.bt.com/t5/BT-Infinity-Speed-Connection/Speed-Drop-since-1-2-weeks/td-p/1737086 - I had an enginner visit and all the tests were green, he said that I should be getting the maximum speed (about 59 and 17 mbps), but obviuosly I am still not and BT does not seem to do much about it... Yet.
