Just thought I would run this by you folks, is it common to have to wait a whole month for an install?
Opted for Vision, phone and Infinity and it seems a little off. Would have opted for Virgin Media if they were in the area just to avoid that alone. lol
Also, this BT Fon thing. Am I right in saying that other people who pass by the area can pick up my WIFI and use it at will... via BT Fon?
What about the FUP? Will it effect that?
Infact, I want rid of that totally. Nasty idea. Ok in a Eutopian Socialist wetdream but I would rather say who can and cannot use my bandwidth that I have paid for.
Or have I got the wrong end of the stick? Hopefully.
BT Fon will only take a small amount of your speed, and does not affect your download limits.
It's handy if you register as you will be free to connect to any of the 2 million odd connections around the UK, when your out and about.
I have opted out of the scheme as I only get 800Kbps download and I want all of that to myself, when and if infinity comes I may switch it back on.
Yes, a one month delay for install is about normal at the moment. They still don't seem to have recovered from the bad weather at the beginning of the winter.
If you don't like FON, just opt out on the web site. It's a "share and share alike" system. Other people can leech a small part of your bandwidth, and if you are out and about, you can use a small bit of theirs.
Odd - I ordered my Infinity this evening and have got an install date next friday. 😄
BT Infinity (EASTF) 58.93/15.94 Mbps [IP Profile: 60.8/20 Mbps] using Openreach Modem & Billion BiPAC 7800N
At the moment there is a 300GB fair usage policy, the BT Fon usage does not effect that.
From April, no confirmed date, BT broadband will be truly unlimited. No fair usage policy, however traffic management still applys.
