I have just had infinity installed today
The speed is around 52Mbps - which I am happy with.
However, i've tried downloading using uTorrent over P2P and I am very obviously being traffic managed to around 6-10Kbps.
If I connect to a VPN on the infinity connection the download spead increases almost imediately to several Mbps - before the VPN gets disconnected.
So I am certain I am being traffic managed on P2P, and I suspect strongly that there are restrictions on the use of the VPN service from BTGuard.
Please advise me if this is a known issue, and if I have incorrectly been put on an older broadband service with limits and traffic managment.
Thanks, I will wait for an improvement with fingers crossed.
By the way, the online chat support person denied any traffic management was in place, emphatically. If he'd said it might be due to a 5 day delay on change over i'd have accepted it.
You are an employee of BT and you did not know???, very odd!. Yes you do have to wait up to 5 days after your package starts for the limits to be lifted. 🙂 Check glasnost test after your 5 days are up to make sure!.
I signed up today, and I am having the same issues. P2P was fine before peak times, but since then I struggle to go above 10 kb/s. Other download speeds are fine, such as Speed Test and Chrome downloads.
Five days later, have you had any sucess? I've tried speaking to technical support a few times, who can't seem to grasp that my Internet is fine - it's just P2P. I don't want to wait 5 days, find out it's still not working, and it be too late to cancel the contract (under the short term cancel rule).
Hi guys, it was the same with me also, about two weeks ago I reconnected my contract from infinity 2 unlimited to totally unlimited and my p2p was restricted, one of the guys on the forums here advised me to give it up to five days which I did and sure enough on the 5th day p2p was fine and throttles lifted so I think it will be okay in both your cases too.
Maybe give it a good 12 days or so guys, cause alot of old as well as new customers want the new Totally Unlimited Broadband Package, so I'm sure BT are probably back logged with the same issue with many customers!. Just give it some time it will be sorted for you all. 🙂 If you are all not sure wether it has been changed or not, type in glasnost test in google search engine and run the test until it completes, it will then tell you at the end!.
If anyone wanted an update, tonight (24 hours later), none of my file sharing has been capped. Still been downloading at 1MB/s+. Not quite the 7MB/s I could get, but it's definitly not limited by BT.
Looking good to me, considering I was quoted 55.6Mb on the website. How likely are they to lower my speeds before the week is over? I've yet to consistantly download something above 2MB/s, let alone 8MB/s, but that's more to do with my weak wireless signal. I'm getting some powerlines soon.
