Packet loss in the BT IP Network

Go to solution

Is anyone else seeing Packet loss in the BT network ? I believe that the device with the IP address of "31.55.186.181" is dropping packes at an alarming rate.

Its just a couple of hops into the BT "cloud" so could be affecting a lage number of Broadband users.

Regards

How are you reaching that conclusion?

PingPlotter is a good tool that can indicate places to start looking when network issues are suspected. Remember that it is routed via a "path" to the final destination. So when others test they may not encounter the issue as they are routed differently through the BT IP network.

My Broadband service is good at the moment but the IP service is suffering. Hence I used PingPlotter.

Ping plotter is a good tool in the hands of those who know the IP stack. Unfortunately in the hands of those that don't it becomes something entirely different with supposedly aquired knowledge based on unsound understanding.

Would you care to post the result of a tracert to bbc.co.uk ? Better  still perhaps tell us what your problem is?

Not sure but it could explain why last month my ping spikes have been insane in gaming and BT have kept saying my connection is fine. Posted on the forum a couple of times and no one helped me 😞

@Alexandor

I thought it had been shown in your last post that you had no package loss  - all packets sent were received

Apologies for no reply. I haven’t see the issue in the last three months. Maybe because I left BT for another provider.

Thanks for all the positive replies
