Password Incorrect?

Go to solution

When I try to sync e-mail on my phone I get the message "Your Btinternet Password Is Incorrect".

It is not incorrect on my PC though. 🙄

Any Ideas?

TIA

Are you a BT Broadband customer or paying for your email through a BT Premium email account?

Which email app are you using on your phone?

Has this just started to happen?

Have you checked you are using the correct settings in the app as per this link.

Yes I have BT Premium for E-mail.

No idea which app I'm using for e-mail. I t came with the phone. (Nokia Lumia).

It has worked perfectly well for a number of years.

I cannot check the settings on the phone. No way to check the settings as far as I know.

But given it has worked in the past and I haven't altered anything why does it reject the password?

* I changed the password in my BT account on the PC. That works fine. It's just when I enter the new password

on the phone it says it's incorrect. 😐

Check in your email settings that the Authentication method is "Normal password". I just had an issue with Thunderbird that seems to have changed the setting to something called "0Auth2" that killed communication with the BT servers.

Your email app might have done the same.

The reason that your email worked for years but not now may well be that your email account has been migrated from BTYahoo to BTMail and as such you could have been using the Yahoo server settings happily for years but they will not work now and you must use the BT server settings.

The reason you get a "password failure" is a generic fault statement and does not necessarily mean there is a problem with your password but because you have changed it you will need to ensure that the new password is entered into your phone email settings for both the incoming and out going BT servers.

Your phone email app will have some way to access the settings. If you can not find it you should do an Internet search and you will probably find the way to do it.

Thank You all for your help.

I could find no way of updating the phone account so I deleted it and set up another new

account with the same settings as on Outlook on my PC.  It works now. 😀
